Rig setup question what is ment by 50/50 60/40 and so on.

Just trying to verify. Easy question for you all.

When your rig is set up 50/50 your chassis is setup in exact middle of your wheelbase. 60/40 or 40/60 would move the chassis more back or forward of your centerline.

Do i have this right?

Is there a position that wouldnt be used. To back heavy or too front heavy being frowned apon.

Tried searching the lingo thread and searching 50/50 setup got me nothing.

Looks like you're on the right track to me.

50/50 - equal length lower suspension links front and rear, centers the chassis

60/40 - longer lower links in the rear, shorter in the front

40/60 - can't say as I'd want to run that way but that's just me.

How you set your weight bias on the truck is going to depend on alot more things that where the chassis sits in relation to the center of the wheelbase, wheel weight electronics placement shocks will all play a factor.

When I'm setting up a truck I like to pick a direction I want to go in, put it all together and see how it runs, you can always adjust things to make it drive the way you want it to, but you'll never know what needs adjusting with the truck sitting on the bench.

Very important point that I see alot of people miss though---adjust 1 thing at a time, dont change your springs wheel weight and link position all at once, you'll never know what change caused the results you see.

Thanks for the info.

I guess longer links in the front would throw alot of your weight back and would probably have the ill effect of wanting to pull your rigs front tires away from the ground on an incline...correct? Kinda like putting your weight back to pop a wheelie on a dirtbike.

That's pretty much what it would do...not what you want in a crawler that spends the majority of it's time going uphill.

Another thing you might see is people will set up their shocks in a 50/50 or 60/40 I've even seen 90/10 or 80/20 this is in a droop/sprung configuration or viseversa

You a achieve this by putting springs Inside the shock, either on top or below the piston, to set ride height and spring rate.

i would run the 50/50, just add more weight to your front axles. you run 50/50 your rig will flex smoothly all around, thats what i run. i liked have a well balanced rig.

Cool thx for the info.

Im currently trying my hand at building a tuber and links and want to make sure I dont build in any flaws. Messed up link hole positions and what not.

Ill shoot for 50/50 and learn to run the rig like that. Can always change it up later as i learn how she behaves.

60/40 works great. I built this rig last year and been running it since.the extra weight up front really helps pull the front up and over the rocks

Will you have to run different shock configurations when the chassis is set up in a 60-40 config?

Check out page 139 in the December 09 issue RC Car Action. This does a pretty good job of explaining weight bias

thanks for the compliment, I'm always glad to show off my builds, ask anyone who knows me, I'm not one to run a cookie cutter rig. All of my rigs are hand made one offs.
