Need advice for SCX10 'smart' build

I'm just getting back into the rc scene after 20 years gone.

Crawling looks like mucho fun and I have limitless opportunities to crawl here in NW Oregon.

So..... I have a Futaba 2 channel radio and receiver. Nothing special, but they will work for the time being. The truck will be assembled as-is (stock) with only wheel weight and drilled rims. I'll upgrade later as time and money allow. With that said I really need advice regarding the other electronics.

I currently only have a Nimh charger and do not want to run lipo at the moment for cost reasons.

I'm not cheap and I make a decent wage, but I dont like throwing money away. With that in mind, what are the best 'bang for the buck' waterproof electronics?

If you had a limited budget, but were willing to spend extra for quality parts that wont be obsolete or destroyed in 6 months what would you buy?

If your not cheap, then you will go ahead and buy lipo now:mrgreen: will save you $$$$ in the long run. thats what i wish i would have done:-(

Any regrets?

And just how much better are the lipo's?
I dont want to get too deeply involved in case I decide its not for me. Ya know!?!?

Do you need to buy a lipo only ESC or will they handle both lipo and nimh batteries?

a traxxas xl-5 is a good water proof esc

20 Years eh?

Well,if it's been 20 years since you rc'd then you will Really apprecieate Lipos! No more discharging,no memory, you don't have to run them all the way down before recharging, and they run at least 2-3 times as long on a pack thats half the size, and weight! Novak products are great,a Rooster system works great with a brushed motor, and has lipo cutoff. You can get a 35turn and have some wheel speed.

Radio=Spektrum! Crystals are what hippies use for healing:mrgreen:

If you set your rig up right you can be driving for an hour on a charge, you won't regret it.

X2

Lipo is the way to go. Money spent on older cells is money down the drain.

no regrets yet nothing has broke except my shocks but that isn't a concern here(got into a bind and them little caps popped right off!!!
).happy with both other wise.as far as the lipo goes it'll increase your play time.I've got the hyperion EOSO6O6I charger and a 2000mah 7.4V lipo from maxamps.com and I get a good hour runtime at least with one charge.so I would say yes to the lipo.the rooster has a cutoff built in it you just have to put it on the correct profile."thumbsup"

Thanks.

I did some research and lipo isn't as expensive as I though. I will go down that path after I get the truck built and outfitted.

I ordered a hitech 645 servo last night and will probably get the Rooster crawler ESC. Now I'm needing a motor. Back to searching the boards......

appreciate the input "thumbsup"
