Depends on what your going to do with it. Crawl around in your yard , local spot or eventually compete with it & on what level. I say its a toss up between AX10 rtc & Losi Night Crawler for out of the box decent crawl ability. Both are highly capable & the sky is the limit on upgrades. For the yard just get an SCX10 tr & scale your way around for endless enjoyment. |

If you must have RTR i would go with the night crawler if you want 2.2 If youre more into scale, the scx is nice. |

I bought an Axial RTC http://www.axialracing.com/ftp/ax10rtc/ right when they came out and have really enjoyed it. Out of the box fun right away, however a word of caution... I've got enough time and money in it by now after just a few months that I could have started with an ARTR http://www.axialracing.com/ftp/ax10artr/ and added electronics for a more capable rig. It really comes down to whether you want to fool yourself about the $$$. You can tell yourself that it will just be the $300 to get the RTC and batteries going and end up spending money slowly on upgrades (good angle for convincing the wife) or you can just jump right in and drop $500-$600 on the ARTR kit, electronics and batteries. Just a little advice from a fellow newbie.

As far as playing in the yard any axial crawler will give you endless hours of fun. I played with mine for a year & never broke a single part. If you start going to comps you are going to spend money (if you want to win) so be prepared. The losi night crawler or Losi LCC would be better for a comp. My suggestion is STOP & go to a comp. See if you even like it. My son hates them , says they are no fun.But he dosen't like to loose eathier & there is no class for noobs in my area. See what your local guys have to say & decide then before you spend any money. GOOD LUCK |

I went RTC wit hte same intentions as you. Ive now spent near $1000 total and am not 100% happy. I would honestly do a ARTR kit then add: 3 channel Radio (DX3E looks great for the $100) ESC (rooster crawles can be had for $110 with motor) Castle Creations BEC (to jeep the servos happy) Decent Servo (a stock axial AS-2 isnt to bad at 6v on a CC BEC) DIG (you will end up with one eventually) A couple 6 cell saddle packs & Charger If you dont have a charger and cells I would seriously look at getting a lipo setup. I had a great NIMH charger so I couldnt bring myself to do it. YET! I have a thread in here about my issuses with some of the RTC electronics, and If i could start over I would do the above. Cheapest scenerio, get an Axial RTC and add a Castle creations BEC to keep the servo from stalling the ESC under load. |

It is really easy to get addicted to this hobby. For that reason I would suggest you approach things with the intention of being addicted. If you go with the axial dont get the RTR beacuse you will be addicted and spend more money to get it up to speed.

I'd stay away from the DX3E since it has only 1 model memory. For a hundo you can have this: Airtronics MX-Sport 2.4G with 10 model memory Last edited by oldskoolmc; 10-29-2009 at 01:03 PM. |

i just recently got the the Losi night crawler, changed the stock servo to a Hextronik 10kg metal gear servo, for 6$ only(the difference is night and day!). it crawls so awesome. . . . . i did a backyard rock garden, it's an addicting hobby i can say. . . . and the Losi NC is great for a newbie like me and you.. . you don't have to hop up too much(i hope), and i won't be able to compete, coz i think i'm the only one who's into rc crawling here in the middle east (Dubai). my next upgrade would just be weights in the wheels and a 24tpinion soon. the nice thing about this crawler, it has 2.4ghz tx already, and i lipo-ready ESC (with built-in 5V BEC output) although i haven't tested the Axial RTC, but just read reviews about it, i would strongly recommend the Losi Night crawler. . . |
