would it be better if i bought a chassis or would it be better to build one to my specifications..

Just get an Axial or Venom and upgrade as you go.

After being in the hobby for a few months...I wish I had just started from scratch and custom built a rig instead of buying a base and upgrading like crazy. Cost depends on the type of rig you decide to build. You can pick up used parts and bargain shop for a good backyard rig, or you can go all out for a comp rig, but that could be more expensive. Personally, for my next rig my plan is to buy a set of axles, custom build my chassis and links, then bargain shop for all the small parts like shocks, electronics, wheels, etc...

If you have the patience to shop around and figure out exactly what you want, you could have an awesome rig. However, if you're not patient and wanna get on the rocks as soon as possible, you could pick up a venom creeper or similar rig and the parts necessary to get it going.

good luck!

i was thinking of doing that and maybe starting a build thread or something on here and have people help me out along the way.

thats what this forum is all about. We are here for the same reason..Do yourself a favor and do a search in the photo area of each type of rig..i.e. Axial, Bully, TLT..and find the type of rig you want to build..then start with the owner..ask them questions in the PM.

so i found some scrap steel
it is flat
what should my chassis look like
i have had a crawler before.
it had a dna chassis
should i make it like that shape?
of and what kind of trans should i use

http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/general-crawlers/63370-crawler-chassis-listing.html

There's a listing of most aftermarket chassis that are available. When I made mine I looked through those to get some ideas for it. If you have the tools available the steel you have could be a good material to use...I personally prefer to use delrin, because it's easy to cut with simple hand tools since I don't have many power tools available.

As far as the tranny is concerned...I assume you've decided to build a shafty rig? One of my crawling buddies recently bought an rc4wd R2 tranny and loves it. I would definitely suggest one of those.

Or you could get a star and see them today. Also with a star, you would be able to enter all the great giveaways that are offered here. In my first 6 months, I won tools and a set of shocks. Something to think about!

thats a good idea too.
but i don't have much money right now.
but when i get some i would do it.
