No get a new ESC and your set. the shock ESC has no lopi cutof so you need one that can handle the # of calls you are using.
a novak roster will handle a 2c lipo
a novak Goat3s will handle a 3c lipo
Momba max will handle a 3c (must program with castle link $20)
Sidewinder will handle a 3c (must program with castle link)

A castle link is a link that gose from your ESC to your computer to program diffrent settings

The stock esc will handle 2cell lipos but there is no lipo cutoff. Ya can use a timer but novak and others make lipo cutoffs.

Sure a new esc (don't forget the fxr) is the way to go but not necessary to start out with lipos.

Your esc doesn't have a lipo cutoff feature but that doesn't mean that you can't run a lipo. You will have to be careful on your runtimes. Without a cutoff on a slow vehicle like a crawler you may have a hard time telling when the lipo has dumped and this could cause rundown below 6V and that would permanently damage your lipo.

An esc with lipo cutoff would be a wise investment but if you want to run a lipo with your Axial esc I would look at some with a higher mah rating and be careful with your runtimes.

Here are some SMC lipos at a good price just be sure to change your connector on that esc to a higher quality one like Deans as well.

You would be better off to go with another ESC like a Sidewinder, or one from Holmes Hobby. They do make LiPo cut-offs if you feel you want to use your existing ESC, and I would use one if you do.

I just put on the Axial battery servo plate ($30) and a Common Sense RC 2000mah 20c lipo (advertised as a direct Mini-T replacement.$32) and loving it!!!!

Now I just need to add more weight to my wheels to compensate for the smaller battery.
