Default Newbie Night Crawler question!!

Hello RCCRAWLER,

My name is Mike and I'm totally new to crawling and a battery powered vehicles in general. I just purchased (tonight) a Losi Nightcrawler. Got to mess with it in the house for a little and have realized that it seems to be three wheel drive and the front left wheel does not seem to be locked like the other three. Now I assume this is so the vehicle can turn but I just want to make sure this normal. Any help and or info. would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Mike

Yep, Id take it back and get it repaired. Someone probably tried to spin the tires on the crawler by hand, not knowing it is worm gear driven.

Something else to check out, pull off the one tire that is not hooking up remove the little black hex hub, under it is a metal pin that fits in the back side of the hub. If its gone theres your problem. But it shouldnt spin at all the worm gearing makes it locked all the time.

Well thanks guys for letting me know that it was not normal. I decided to take that wheel off and low and behold the 12mm hex nut was not installed. Kind of a bummer being this was brand new out of the box and watched the guy at the hobby store pull it out of the shipping box. Oh well least it's a easy fix not I have to try and track one down. Thanks again guys!

I also just bought a Night Crawler, I'll have to double check all my hex nuts- if I can ever get mine running properly. . .

Don't like seeing this as that is what I'm planning to buy.
Should I go with a different rig?

Forgot to mention upgrade tje hexes to the metal ones there better than stock and they will stay on the shafts so u won't loose the pin behind the hex.

Bought mine about 2 weeks ago, and have had no problems at all. If you can upgrade the steer servo and weight the tires it makes a BIG difference.

Ya I had to get a better servo, the stock one is ok for stock tires but with my Meyhems weighted it wouldn't cut it. Did like the tires that came with after replacing the foams.

i agree with needing to upgrade the servo but over all seems to be a good starting point into the crawler world.

Don't let this scare you away, it was an accident and I'm sure it happens. Just my luck I emailed Losi (horizon hobby it appears) and told them about the situation. I will report back with the out come. Are the 12mm hex pretty much standard or are the vehicle specific?

Waiting for my Night Crawler to get delivered, already bought proline eight shooters, 4oz of weight added with Moab tires. Also waiting on a Jconcepts gate crasher body. Guess I'll be picking up a stronger servo too after reading this page. Here's my wheels...

I'de definitely like it flat... i've read a couple techniques in the paint section to get a flat look, either scuff up the outside of the body to give it a flat look or paint the inside flat as well as painting the outside flat so when it does scratch off from crawling the colors underneath, probably end up painting both sides. I believe if you paint just the inside it will look like a gloss through the lexan. Not much experience in painting so any suggestions are more than welcome.
