traxxas fm radio and traxxas waterproof esc help

im thinking bout buying the fm style traxxas 3 channel are they any good just for scaling? thats all im into is scalers and can u convert them like the old am style radio with a 3 poition switch for using a winch?

and also with the traxxas waterproof esc can u run lipo's and if you can whats the biggest you can run with still being safe?

any help i get is much greatful

with the traxxas evx-2 waterproof controller you can run up to 4s (16.8v). It would be advised that you install a lvc (low voltage cutoff) so that you don't over discharge your lipos and destroy them.

are the lvc cutoff's hard to install since im new at this i really dont know much bout them and where could i find them at a good price?

I have an am TQ-3 3-ch Traxxas radio, but have never heard of an FM. Whats the scoop on that model?

Not sure what traxxas esc your planning on using but the waterproof XL-5 has served me great. it does not have a low voltage cutoff though, but that does not mean you cannot still use a lipo. Just need to pay close attention. Costs about 60 bucks at my local hobby store. Good for a 2 cell lipo or 8 cell Nimh.

as far as the fm models i found them on ebay pretty cheap got them in the 3 and 4 channel comes off the new revo and e and t-maxx im certain, i was interested in the 4 channel but i have no clue what ill do with the extra channel just good to have it for any reason or whatever ud like to do with it.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but Traxxas only makes AM and 2.4 versions of their 4-channel radios, but not FM. If someone is selling a FM TQ on E-Bay they don't really know what they are selling, they have a hacked radio, or are lying about it.

i havent done any research on them they say there 2.4 fm radio's not saying ur wrong its just what it says.

Yes, big help. That radio should be fine. You might want to modify it to a 3 position 3rd channel, there is a sticky on that in the Electronics Forum, it covers installing the switch and putting in EPA pots.

yea i have the am style traxxas and i did the mod on it but im using a 3racing winch but i wonna do a servo winch instead.
