Default switching from NiMH to 3s lipo

I am running and RTC ax10 and want to switch from my 6 cell NiMH to a 3s Lipo's.

I currently have a Vision Peak 2 charger http://www.dynamiterc.com/Products/D...ProdID=DYN4044

which I am assuming is no good if I want to switch. What is the most cost effective way to make the switch?

BTW I am running a stock ESC, HS-645mg servo, and a stock 55t motor.

You'll need a speed control and charger that handle lipos. I have an FXR ESC and love it. It will handle 3s lipos. As for the charger, check hobbypartz.com. They have good prices and cheap shipping.

thanks..... one of the problems that I am having is trying to find the balance between $$ and quality. My biggest issue is the Lipo charger I guess how much do I need to spend?

The FXR ESC seems to be the best and the batteries are all about the same price/quality.

You're right about the charger. For the charger you basically get what you pay for...so the more you spend on a top quality one the better. Personally, I don't have a reason to go LiPo and quite happy with my old skool nimh packs...with my AX10 running a 55T I've seen quite long runs with my 4500mah plus I'm just too scared about the LiPo stories I've heard . I've got kids and god forbid something happened when charging those suckers...

I may also try some 7-8 cell split packs for the front axle

I think that my 6 cell packs are 2400 mah does that # represent the run time on the battery?

Not necessarily, that speaks to the capacity. mAh stands for Milliamp Hour, a technical term for how much power a particular battery will hold. However, it can be translated as the more power the battery can hold can mean the longer it will last - EDIT: as it speaks to run time not life of the battery.

Lithium Charge Converter

Want to run lithium batteries for more power and longer run times but don’t want to have to buy an expensive Llthium charger?
At a Glance

The Lithium Charge Converter will allow you to charge a lithium battery with a charger you probably already own. Just plug a lithium battery into the charge converter, select the cell type and confirm the number of cells, adjust the charger to the correct output, plug it into the charger and start charging! The converter allows you to use a nickel-based charger to charge lithium-based batteries. No need to buy an expensive LiPo charger.
Features

  • This is NOT a charger! This is an adapter to be used with your existing "Approved" charger
  • Eliminates the need to buy a lithium charger
  • Extends the investment of a currently owned charger
  • Easier to pack and carry than a second charger
  • Will accommodate up to a 6-cell LiPo or 8-cell M1 Li-Ion
  • LED indicator for configuration and cell settings
Product Specifications

# Cells:2-6 LiPo and 2-8 M1 Li-ion
Technical Notes

Only the following approved NiCd or NiMH chargers should be used:
Blaa...blaa...blaa call them up your charger might work with it..

I ran a 4200 6 Cell in my AX-10 for a long time... then just last week made the switch to an FXR and 2C Lipo.

I am still blown away by the difference! Im a firm believer in Lipo. I wont go back. Lipo from now until something better comes along!

Good luck in your decision!

I'm in the same boat you are I've got the FXR,just trying to figure out what kind of charger and if I really need to change over.Just for bashing and playing around the house, the regular 6 cells work fine.I would like to get some 6 or 7 cell saddle packs for the front axles.I've got 2 to buy for ,so that's more$$$$$.I've got the same charger you do too.

What i did:
bought an fxr, tore my old 3000 nimh in half and made a saddle pack out of it.
loved the run time but I herd good things about 3s lipo's wheelspeed so i bit the bullet and went with a 2600 mah 3s lipo n wooo!
no more getting jammed. 7.4v isnt enough power!!
