Those have been around for a while, they use them in competitive rock crawling.

Or you can just use a rear driveshaft disconnect, cheaper than a $2500 transfer case.

the np205 can be twin sticked for free, so can the dana 20, and 300. the toyota and suzuki's take a little bit, but can be done for less than $100. the atlas's cost a bunch, but are hard to tear up! anyway, back to topic.

i heard that if you use this with anything larger than 37's you will end up with a broken input shaft

Wow some good info for my 1:1 project!!!
I just remembered i got in an arguement with some one about how it is possible to have a dig for a 1:1..
So falling apon this little unit was somethin..
I heard its possible to replace the lever with an air ram..
Ive' known about the atlas case, i also know how expensive it is..
so ya basically some sort of strong driveshaft disconnect somehow is what im most likley looking for..
P.S.
just thought id share a cool part and get some feedback about it thanks!!

What do you wheel? Some are easier to install a dig on than others.

We've been running rear disconnects on our Samis for years.

I have a stock 85 4runner, EFI 5-speed.
I just saved a bunch of money this year to start building it up and ya, it seems like are rcc's are more capable than most 1:1, my idea is to moc the rcc style for handling on the rocks

I kind of thought that the idea for dig on RC crawlers came from 1:1 trucks having them for years. I could be wrong though.

Whats better for crawling front 2wd or read 2wd?
is this necessary for 1:1? or just more necessary for rcc because of weight?

To install a dig all you need is a rear drive disconnect. Think these are easily available for Toyotas. They are for Samurais.
Also a line lock for the rear brakes, not absolutly needed but makes it more effective.
A dig is front 2wd, as rear 2wd is well, just 2wd.
Or you can get a high dollar transfer case, like an Atlas.
If you want to make your 4Runner like a rock crawler just build a buggy. By the time the Yota is as capable as buggy it will be no more than a buggy.
Build one from the ground up, or just buy a used one.

ya thats what i want to do, i have the welding machines/ material to do it..
the only catch would be is that i would have to strip the toyota for the parts so i mine as well just use the 4runner frame and gusset it up.
+ just more money for tubing.
I was thinking with the marlin gears and dual cases, w/5.29's in the diffs I think it will be geared good for what I need. If i go as far as the dig I would probly do the lock line as you suggested.

P.S. sorry Im not too up to date with all my knowlage so my bad to the one that bumped my thread.. i didnt mean to do anything stupid

dig just the front. you already have dig for the rear, it's called 2WD. and NO it's not a nessecity on anything really. it does make things easier in fullsize and rc competitions when you are shooting for points.

if you are going toyota axles, the 5.29's are great, just get some longfield axles for the front or make rings. you'll blow the cages/bells apart. and marlin crawler gearsets/t-cases, are the best for yota's.
