Pros or Cons to Worm Gears. Looking between AX10 and Losi Comp.

The pros vs cons of worm gears could fill several pages and much of it's subjective opinion. It may be better if you stated what your intentions are and go from there. Is it going to be a backyard basher or are you looking to compete with it?

I am looking to compete in the long run.

I recently was contemplating between the two . Out of the box , Losi is the better of the two . People say well , when you upgrade the AX10 it will be better then the LCC , no sh!t. Whenever you upgrade something it will be better . Upgrade , the LCC and it will be better .

To me it was cheaper to get the LCC to where it is compared to both out of the box . Besides that fact that I`m a Losi nut . Long as you have the new gears and a brushless system I don`t see see a problem with the worm gears .

I recently found myself in the same dilema. Had both trucks sitting on the counter. Wanted the AX10 ARTR because of all the cool aftermarket stuff out there for them. Driving a lot of losi vehicles in the past and very happy with the quality, I ended up walking out the door with the LCC and I can tell you that in no way was I dissapointed. So far what I have found out about the worm gears is...

1. Make sure your new truck came with the properly cut spools
2. You gotta do a little research before you run it (i.e. remove the extra spool shims and break in properly)
3. Need a good motor! Worm gears require lots of torque and power (I'm using 12t cobalt puller with 12t pinion, alot of people go 18.5 brushless system)
4. Worm gears are inefficient, so expect a little shorter run times (motor and gears can also get hot and wear out faster, but with the right setup, shouldn't be a problem)
5. Worm gears are expensive, so take care of them!

This is a really sweet truck out of the box!! I have a modded venom creeper and run on a small rock pile in my backyard that challenges the rig quite easily. Needless to say, after driving the LCC over it a few time, I need a new and more challenging rock pile!! I'm still running all the stock parts, even the wheels and tires. This rig is very "capable" and you won't be dissapointed. So I would have to agree that out the box, the LCC would be the cheaper truck as well and the aftermarket parts will come!
