Just a guess, but that guy might be used to RCs that have a center diff, when you "lock" them you are putting the same amount of power front and back. In most case around here, shafties run with a locked diff and the only 2.2 tranny that I know of that you can run a diff in is the Traxxas Magnum 272 tranny (Stampede/Rustler/Bandit/Slash), but why would you? The long and short of it, we all have locked diffs...

ok thats what i was thinking... ive worked on the real deal [1:1] for a while now and looking at this childishly simple gearbox im wondering wtf is this guy talkin bout... ive seen it in other places as well not just this guy...
what rc trucks have like limited slip or anything non posi rearends? most i see just a simple ring and pinion... but axial sell these little aluminum "locker" boxes that go in rearends???

what are those for... anyone got a pic of the rear end that those go in?

It depends on what kit you get. The SCX10 comes with an open diff in the front, all of the crawlers come with their diffs locked.

Open Diff: Allow one wheel to turn slower or quicker than the wheel on the same axel when going around a corner (this is what more 1:1 cars have). This allows for a tighter turning radius. The problem is when one wheel has good traction and the other does not, the wheel w/o traction will spin and no power will get to the wheel with traction.

Locked diff: Both wheels get the same amount of power. Vehicles with locked diffs tend to have a low wider of a turning radius.
