Default Missing Newbie Glossary Definition

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but I couldn't find it using the search and it is not in the glossary of terms for newbies.

What is a "drag brake"? From reading some posts about it, I am guessing it is a feature of some ESC's, but just what is it? What is it used for?

It is in the ESC and it applys power to the motor to keep the crawler from free wheeling down a steep slope. Not all ESC's have this option, a Tekin FXR is an ESC with a good dragbrake.

Default Okay, this sounds familiar...

Lego had this feature on the first generation Robotics Invention System. You could program a small computer to tell the motor to actively restrict the motor from moving. But, that was a special type of motor as well. Any such motor restrictions required with an RC crawler's ESC?

Default Drag brake

NO, brushed or brush-less they all work, but am sure a more expensive motor has a better magnet.

Just go to tekins website and look at the FX-R. That will be a good esc, or go to Holmes hobbies and get the Torque master BR-XL

Default Thanks for the replies

Like I keep saying, I love this forum! Thanks also for the product recommendations, even though I was only seeking to educate myself. However, that information will be useful if I ever have a need for a new ESC. (My RTR Wheely King just arrived today )
