Wheel weights

Whats the best way to weight your tires????

Kanine38 02-02-2010 04:15 PM

Do the stick on aluminum weights stick OK?

indiana mudcat 02-02-2010 04:24 PM

Yes, stick on LEAD weights stick great. I wrap a round or two of tape on top to make sure though. Lead solder works great too.

I did 2 full wraps on the fronts and 1 wrap on the rears

I picked some up at my local tire shop and they work great! Just don't let them plug your vent holes.

Are you wrapping them around the inside the actual wheel?

indiana mudcat 02-02-2010 10:31 PM

between the wheel and the foam

Can i compress the foam a bit? Does it matter?

indiana mudcat 02-02-2010 11:24 PM

ya, it'll compress the foam some, depending on the tire/foam combo it may or may not matter, with a memory foam you probably won't notice any difference except for the plusses of the added weight. Two wraps on front and one rear works well, any more will probably shorten wheel life.

I had some 1/8" lead strips laying around that I wrapped around the rim and secured with electrical tape.....works great. My buddy used plumbers solder. Just weigh the length you need and wrap away!!

Kanine38 02-03-2010 05:00 AM

Great, thanks.

I had some silver solder in the basement and I wrapped the fronts 3 times each then secured with elec tape. Wasn't that much heavier, but I do have a weak servo, so I will fly with this until I upgrade.

Wow, I never knew that people actually weighted their wheels for crawling, but now that I think of it sounds pretty smart. Learn something new everyday

GB's 05 02-08-2010 04:01 PM

ummm, we don't.....

kidding.

I used bb's that rolled on the outside of the foams, I cut the foams so the bbs had a place to travel around the wheel....works ok, but no the best.

Axial Comp rig has 6OZ up front, 3OZ in the rear of lead stick-ons... 8OZ front, 4OZ rear on my Clod with enuff AirSoft BB's to keep the wheels from sitting on the inside of the tire; I run no foams in my Clod... I've seen some setups with batteries on knuckles, weights on knuckles... From what I have been seeing, weighting the axle is better than the wheels, depending on how heavy... I've snapped a wheel-stub off from too much weight on the wheels...;)
