Default Tamiya Touareg crawler/trail rig. what motor to use?

I'll be using the stock 16 tooth pinion and i'm using it for crawling most if the time.
Would it be too slow with a 55t lathe?
Another question, what kind of maintenance does the 55t lathe motor require? Is it much better than a 27t stock motor? I was hoping I could get atleast 20 runs out of it before the performance started to drop then then I could just get another one. Thanks people!!!

you should get 20 runs pretty easy. when you are done just send it to me . The maintenance is pretty low compared to most motors because of the low amp draw.

it will be pretty slow, but pretty good for a crawler if you lock at least the rear diff.

It's still pretty quick (for a crawler) with a lathe motor.

How does the 65t compare to the 55t? how does it differ in performance and maintenance?

Moved to Newbie.

The 65t motor will be slower, have more torque and run longer. The maintenance will be the same.

I've got 4 XC's, all with 55t lathes. Run time with a 3300 is, well, long....
I get at least a couple hours driving around the trials course and trails in my back yard. Its a bit slower than with the silver can, but much better throttle control and runtime. I must have 30 or 40 packs through my oldest motor and I haven't seen a drop in performance. Come to think of it, other than spraying it down with motor wash and sticking a drop of oil on each end, I've never pulled it apart. I wonder what the brushes and com look like...
