| mercedes G body, short wheelbase
I have a mercedes G (short wheelbase !!!!), and yes, it is a toy.:-( The reciever is connected with the car by a wire ! The steering is with a wheel on the reciever, and works with a steel cable, through the wire to the car ! (yes, i know, it sounds ... 'old' ). BUT, the body is perfect ! And i don't find the same here in the forum !! I want to transform the car, only by using the body. Now my question, which chassis can fit, or modified to fit ? And most important, which axles ? ( so that the tires don't come out too much ) wheelbase = 30 cm = 11,8 inch body width = 20,5 cm = 8 inch tire high = i thought maximum 10 cm = 3.94 inch to look scale. I thought to buy the ax10 to start with, it will be my first project ! thank you ! |

that seems like a good body for a 1.9 scale truck. if i were to build it. i would try to buy a set of tlt or axial axles used somewhere, then a tranny and a scale chassis. this would be cheaper then buying the ax-10 kit and would give you a better start

TLT axles would be a great match for that 8" width.

axial axles are 1/2" wider than TLT's so I second the TLT axle recommendation. This sounds like my gwagon, but not really...pics please. This is my gwagon (Nikko toy body) with TLT axles under it. |

hahaha, those were hilarious. I like the pick up bed though...maybe when I'm done with the rover and need something to occupy my time I'll do a soft top 4dr pickup conversion...hmmm...

i made a decision, an ax 10 kit is on his way to belgium, (i hope it arrives soooooon .....):-P and also 1.9 tires yes, it took a while, because i read a lot on this forum to learn, and learn and learn, ... (and i stil know nothing ) i started to make my own chassis, of metal. I know it will be heavy, but metal i can weld, not alu. i started from photos of the G wagon chassis, my 1:8 scale body, and paper to draw. Now the chassis is 'almost' ready, but i am waiting for ax10 to arrive, because i want that the tranny fits exactly between the chassis. By the way, is it normal that i feel me like a little child that knows that it gets a very big present of the santa claus ????? |

the ax10 arrived :-P I built my first chassis , (i'm proud on myself) and there is still a lot to do ... the stock springs (with blue dot, super firm) are too strong. i thaught to buy a set of medium and super soft, to try out. has anyone a suggestion ? and after the springs, then still the shocks ... looks good. with that being a 1/8 scale body you could go with more offset on the wheels so they don't get sucked into the wheel wells. They look like they could stand to sit out 3-6mm farther than they are now. |

So, my G drives ... first, i drove with the 1.9 wheels, and yes, i was happy ... but, i was a little disappointed by its performance:-(, i thaught it was because of the heavy weight, but today i mounted the stock 2.2 wheels of the ax10 on it, AND :-P yes yes yes, it is a totally oder G-wagon, it's unbelieveble what a difference it makes. where the 1.9, i have to try 10 times, (and have a lot of luck), now with the 2.2 i can drive with out a problem , its a LOT of difference. here are some pictures ... and yes i have still a lot of work to do and on the last pictures, you can see where i will make my private rock-crawling area ... only most of the rocks (stones) are not yet there ....
