ESC recommendations for EVERYTHING

I am looking for a ESC that i can use for crawling and also i could maybe put is a slash 4x4? I am new to crawling so this may be a stupid question. I am basically looking for a ESC that would do good at crawling and also at fast speed racing. Any suggestions?

Mamba Max will do whatever you need it to. "thumbsup"

whats the diff between mamba max and mamba max pro? and i was told not to get the max becasue it didnt have bec? does that mean it has to have a separate battery? sorry am learning all this.

THanks

Mamba Max Pro will be the best sppedo for everything, add the external BEC with the speedo will give you everything you need

The main difference's between the MM and MMP are that the MMP will do sensored brushless and has a 6s limit instead of 3s. The BEC in the MMP is adjustable but isn't stronger than the MM, Both will need a CC BEC added for a strong crawler servo. The MMP is probably the best ESC out for multiple uses.

what about the Monster Mamba? Is that better than the Mamba Max? I know its good for fast stuff but what about crawling? COuld it be used?

the mamab monster is more for the 1/8 scale 4s-6s lipo racers. one of the mamba maxes would be better suited for your needs

Do I have to run lipos?

All these brushless motor/esc combos say 5s,6s etc when it comes to how many cells or voltage they can run. It doesn't really matter what kind of batts I use right? After all, voltage is voltage no matter what it comes out of.

Correct. The only thing you have to watch out for are the ESCs that wont support a lipo. Lithium Polymer batteries can not be run completely dry like traditional batteries. ESCs that support lipo batteries typically have a low voltage cutoff to keep lipo packs from dropping below 3.0V/cell and possibly causing damage to the battery.

You also need to be sure that the battery you use is capable of handling the load you place on it. Lipos can do very bad things when overworked. NIMH & NICD don't have these problems, but are heavier and not as efficient.

I agree with the mamba max, i have one and i use it in my scale truck with a 35turn brushed motor in the winter, then swap it to my stampede in the summer with the 5700 KV brushless motor it came with in the kit. just reprogram it for the brushless and turn off the drag brake.

the internal bec works fine for a scale truck but when run in my comp crawler on 3s it overheated a few times and shut down on a 9 min course. but on 2s ive never had it shut down.

great all round esc and its in a reasonably small package. also very adjustable.

guys thanks for all the help... .... once agian though could someone explain the pros and cons the mamba max pro vs the mamba max.. thanks to all..

rock hard 02-21-2010 08:48 PM

I like the tekin fxr.

however I witnessed a honcho with a mamba max pro with a 12t on 6s
and it was BAD AS$.

so I would say go with castle.

A sidewinder is not a bad choice either, can do pretty much everything a MMax can "thumbsup" & is a little cheaper than a Mamba max.

Both are good choices"thumbsup" but get a casle link right away too.

The MMpro will handle up to 6s and run sensored. The MM is only good for 3s and non-sensored. 6s is twice the power and senored is smoother at low speed (crawling).
