3s on a Novak Rooster Crawler ESC?
 

How could this be achieved? I know it will void the warranty, but what would need to be done to make it do able?

Yes...it will void your warrenty, no I cannot garuntee that you won't let the smoke out instantly but here's how it's done.

Set esc to a non lipo profile

Remove red wire from plug going to receiver, you cannot use the internal bec for anything at all when running 3s

Install external bec and an external lipo cutoff or gauge of your choice, I recomend the gauge from cheap battery packs - 7 bucks lights up and has an audio alarm

plug in battery and hit the rocks.

When I was searching for info on my rooster crawler there was a couple threads about it. You will need a bec for sure.

I smoked my novak rooster crawler on 8 cells nimh, so I know a 3s will smoke it.

Only took about 5 minutes of crawling to kill it!

Yeah, I'll probably go with 2s.

Results will vary when you exceed the recomended voltage. Several drivers in my club run them on 3s with no problems at all over long periods of time

But did you run a BEC or not?

My goat runs hot on 2s without a BEC, with the CC BEC the ESC and servo both run cooler.

Castle bec and 3s will work ok have been running that way the whole life of my rooster i put in a buddies crawler"thumbsup"

I cannot guarantee or recommend it, but I've been running my Rooster for the last 12 months (well over 100 hours) on 3S with no external BEC. That's a 2150 mAH 20C pack, a 55T motor and a HS7950TG servo. The ESC runs cooler than the servo, it's the only electrical component on my rig that's been there from the start.

I've be running 3 cell for about 6 months with no issues, using a bec.

wow,,is all i can say,,,

I have been running my Rooster Crawler on 3S,,red wire in place powering the Rx,,external bec set to 6VDC powering the ds8711 all in lipo cutoff mode,,,,my Rooster is set to cut out on 2S,,,the 3S will not cut out until the external Novak 3S Smart Stop that I installed tells me the 3S has reached minimum voltage,,,

Heres the deal,,,the Rooster is rated for 2S because the lipo cut off is rated for 2S not because it wont handle the voltage,,I run two 45t handwound motors on my Bully

My set up,,

RC4WD Big Offroader Tx and Rx
Novak Rooster Crawler set to Profile 2,,Lipo cut off for 2S,,powering the Rx
Novak 3S Smart Stop
Dual Integy 55t Lathe motors handwound to 45t's
12 tooth stock pinions
Bully 2 axles
Castle Creations BEC Pro set at 6VDC
JR DS 8711 Servo
Parkzone 11.1VDC (3S) 1300MAH LIPO

WORKS GREAT!!!!!!!!!

I leave the throttle profile in mode 2 for 2S lipo cut off so that when I comp I use the Sart Stop 3S Cut off,,when I am messing around I can use my 2S packs and just unplug the esc from the S.S.

The internal bec is fine on 3S,,,,My rig proves it every time it runs
