| Gearing Question :
Hello, I am just getting into this hobby and gearing is the part that is confusing me a little. First of all, I have a Axial SCX10. But would like to know how this information is applied to any other type of crawlers too. N ow regardless of what motor I use, how can I calculate which gearing I should? can? use? Should I just work down or up from the stock pinion size? but keep the spur gear size to stock @ 87t ? Also, what kind of gearing would cause the following electronics to heat up? Motor, ESC, Battery. Finally, how does the motor turn affect the gearing? or is it just a matter of top speed limit? I would really appreciate it if someone could explain the all this using some real world example motor/battery combinations. So that people like myself does not have to ask every time for gearing question based on each setup people have. Thank you very much! |

this should answer some of your questions. lots to read. http://www.team3sixrc.com/rcelectronics101.htm and this is a good way to figure out what your truck will do. http://scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/index.html Now if you are running stock electronics. I would just run an 87T spur with a 14T pinion and a 45T or 55T motor and that will be a good starting point for you. |

Also depends on what your going to use it for. My scx10 scale/mud truck has a vxl system in it and I ran a 16/87 with 48p. Now using 11/56 32p setup for durability in deep mud with 2.2 mud slinger tires. Mine can still crawl pretty slow if needed. My buddy has my same basic setup with 18/87 and his cogs at very low speed. Its all about what your building it for. Good luck. T

Thanks for tips, I actually am using a 32 pitch for my Traxxas Slash Brushless setup for durability aswell. I am using it without the gear cover too (well it doesn't fit anymore). Even the sands won't eat through the 32p (well, way way way way way way more durable than 48p). | |
