Use a roll of masking tape or something similar and place it over the tyre sidewall. You can then push the tyre (and bead) down into the wheel around the whole circumference at once. Holding the roll of tape (or whatever) down, you can fiddle the bead into its groove, and drop the ring on. Once you've got a couple of screws in, you can remove the roll of tape and do all the screws up tight.

I have seen some people use the lids off of jars. The ones you can buy when you put your own stuff in jars with the removable center and it has seemed to work great.

I had a problem the first time, then looked to the side of me and found my Mountain Dew can was a perfect fit. You can get one side fairly easy, but the other side needs help. Put the wheel on the can and pull the tire down enough for the whole bead to seat into the beadlock (with some motovation from your free hand), then just put the outter lock on and it's done!

You aren't getting the bead seated perfectly if it slips out. Keep taking them apart and re-beading them. I like to get the lock kinda tight, then maneuver the bead into the grove wherever it isn't completely seated.
