Default How to make my SCX10 TR smoother on takeoff/low speed??

I am a happy new owner of a SCX10 TR Dingo, it works great so far. Just wondering how to make the slow speed smoother. It seems very touchy when starting out from a stop.

Thanks for any suggestions!

What motor? What esc? What spur and pinion?

You'll need to give up some info to get proper help.

Probably the stock electronics, 27t motor, 87tS and 20tP.

Yup, all stock. Notice the title, SCX10 TR.
Thanks.

get a lower gear ratio, use a 14t pinion!

I kept the stock gearing but swapped a 55T motor for the 27T. Works great!

try resetting the throttle positions on the esc
re-program it to the controller and it should help

How is this done, is it fairly simple?
Sorry, I obviously fit well in this "Newbie" section!

O.K. I'll check it out after I get home from the fire station in the morning.

I'm very happy with the speed range, it's about perfect for my 6 yr. old right now, it just seems a little "jerky" when starting out.

Thanks

yep, a 55T motor and the stock 20t pinion should be about perfect.

Wouldn't changing the motor or pinion slow down the overall speed? I am very happy with the stock speed range, I am just looking for a smoother takeoff. It is sometimes really jerky.

from your original post it sounded like you wanted more torque for smoother low speed operation. but if it acts glitchy then that is likely radio interference or just the crappy stock speed control.

It's the cheap axial speed controller. A sidewinder is a good smooth scaler item. If ya like the speed, keep the motor/pinion ya got and get a speedo.

Default speed control and radio speed.

2.4 radio will have a much smother feel.
but the speed control has the most effect. the novak rooster is super responsive. gearing down will help but wheel speed is great. make sure the reciever is mounted high and away from the speed control to prevent inerferance.
make sure your drive line is perfectly smooth with no motor attached, any extra friction will have the most effect at low rpm.
thats my 2 cents.

I recently installed a Tekin FXR to replace my Rooster Crawler ESC, and I like it alot more. It's alot smoother on take-off with both my 55t, and 35t motors. 27 turn motors make starting off "smooth" more difficult. The easiest way to try to help would be going to a smaller pinion as someone has mentioned.

A 2.4 radio is a great suggestion! I run a cheap traxxas esc, cheap 35t motor with a 21t pinion in my scx but my radio is a dx3e and the truck is smooth as silk as a snails pace! Sometimes I swap motor and run a 17x1 speed gems when I want speed, same cheap esc and it's still very smooth at low speed. The dx3e was only $100.00 and has all the features you will need.....it will feel like a new truck!

I ran high dollar esc's and they do help but not as much as the radio did.
