Default TX/RX setup for my 11 year old son

I am looking for a new TX/RX setup for my 11 year old sons AX10 RTC. Right now he is running the stock AM setup. It works fine when we are in the yard, but when we go out with a group there are too many people running AM setups.
I am looking at 4 radios, but cannot make a decision. Is there else I should be looking at? I do not mind spending more money, but I have concerns about buying him to nice.

Hitec Aggressor 3-channel FM TX/RX, I can pick this up used for $40.00 and it looks like I can upgrade it to 2.4GHz for $100.00. From searching through posts, this seems like a nice radio.
Traxxas TQ 2.4GHz 4-channel, I can pick up one of these used for $50.00. A search on this seems like 50/50 reviews.
Spektrum DX3E – Everyone seems to like this, reading through posts.
Spektrum DX3.0 ???
Thanks Rob

For 180 bucks you can get the futaba 3pm-mx with 10 model memory and heres a link on how to program the 3rd channel with a vidieo Futaba 3PM-MX Crawling Radio - Info and setups its towards the bottom on page 5. It also hasd a bunch of programs for rock crawling and 10 model memory instead of 1 like the spektrum.
