Bec question????

If I use a high voltage steering servo,do I need to run a bec? I will be using a 8711hvt,3s lipo and a FXR on a moa set up.

You don't need to, but a BEC will allow you to get the max votage to the servo. I believe the FXR is limited to 6v. Castle BECs are adjustable for whatever voltage you want to run.

YES, you will need a BEC to run pretty much any steering servo when you are running 3S on an FXR. Actually just about any ESC out there will need a BEC when running 3S lipo except for the Holmes BR-XL Speedo.

You can try it without one, but I guarantee that when you power it up and drive it, the first time you turn your wheels while on the throttle, your rig will stop dead in its tracks.

BINGO!! Check the electronics forum, they've got diagrams (if you search) on how to wire it strait in line with the servo. That's how I do mine.

Rather than what,off the battery? What's the benefit?

He means the servo will get the power straight from the BEC which is getting it straight from the battery - rather than going through the RX for power. It'll be a little easier on RX when the servo/BEC is trying to pull power.
