| I know you've heard it all before, but...
So Im getting a TXT-1 and have a few questions about what else i'll need to get started. Im really just getting into all this, and want to start from scratch I can use it stock until I get used to it, then change and modify to make it better Right now i guess im looking for what i need to get going I dont have a ton of money to spend - but also dont want to have to buy something twice if i can avoid it. For the radio im thinking about a TQ3 because they seem to work good for everyone and can easily be modded for rear steer, maybe pick this up on ebay for cheap? For batteries im not sure - maybe the Radio Shack GP3300? Servos, Esc's, Chargers, Other stuff?? - I really have no clue - Any suggestions? Im really not trying to beat a dead horse here but ive looked and looked, and im kinda overwhelmed there is so much information on here - I cant decide what I really need Thanks for any help |

Charger good cheap one. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXCLD5&P=ML The last charger you will have to buy. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXCJG7&P=ML Cheap servo that will work. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXANT4&P=ML The last one you will have to buy. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...8&I=LXCHB2&P=K The esc that's a hard one to get cheap. Here are a couple choices. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJAC0&P=7 http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXKYN6&P=7 If you don't mind a RX pack then you can use any esc you want. |

Since you are starting from a stock TXT, start here: http://www.rccrawler.com/20txt.htm and another good place to start: You Have Got to See This !! For electronics I suggest getting the best you possibly can. There is no long term benefit to buying crappy electronics. Servos - since this is a large truck you will need a lot of torque. Don't worry so much about the speed, cause the truck won't exactly be moving fast anyway. I would say the absolute lowest you should go for a large truck is 180 oz/inch of torque. Here's a link to help you chose: digital servo guide ESC - I use the Tekin Rebel 2. Some other nice esc's are the Novak Super Rooster (if you can find one) and the Novak Super Duty. I am not even going to mention the many other esc's out there, because most other esc's have BEC (battery eliminator circuit) ratings with 5volt/1amp or less. The Novaks mentioned above have BEC ratings of 6volt/3amp, the TR2 has a 6volt/5amp. IF you do chose to use a low BEC rating esc, you will need to use a reciever pack to power the servo (IMO reciever packs are just extra unwanted baggage). Chargers - There are a lot of options out there, but again you don't want to skimp when it comes time to buy one. I'm not saying you should go out and spend $300 on a charger, just don't go out and get a "15 minute charger". If you plan on using Nimh batteries, like the ones you listed, you will need a Nimh capable charger. Just to name a few: Duratrax Piranha AC/DC Digital Peak - http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXCLD5&P=ML Great Plane Triton (DC only, will need a power supply) - http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXCJG7&P=ML MRC Super Brain 977 (includes power supply) - http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLCJ6&P=7 I use a MRC Super Brain 969. I have heard a lot of complaints about the 959 (lower priced/fewer features), but nothing about the 969. And the 977 is a newer version of the 969 with more features like charging Li-poly batteries. |
