It depends on your budget for 99 you could get a spektrum dx3e or for 290 you could get a spektrum dx3r.

It will be just fine for that. However, if you have even the inkling of an idea that you may go into comp or expand, I would go with the Futaba 3pm-x. The third channel features are pre-programmed with crawlers in mind. It does everything the DX3R does at almost half the price.

The 3PM-X is a great radio, but I have just upgraded to the DX3R and I would not go back. The DX3R is 100% easier to setup; with the 3PM-X you'll have the manual out all the time, with the DX3R you'll hardly need it, so basicly your paying an extra 100 for ease of use...

For one crawler, playing in the backyard or bashing with your buddies, the dx3e is pretty nice. I don't like how easy it is mess the trims up, but Ya could almost buy another one for another rc for the price of a futaba receiver. But, the 3pm x is a better radio and will do more, especially if ya ever want rear steer or get into go fast stuff. It will in fact do more than a dx3r at almost 1/2 the price (ya could almost buy a couple futaba receivers for the difference). But it is important how a radio feels and the user friendliness. Eyeryone has thier favorites!

Just my .02 cents worth ,I just picked up a Traxxas TQ4 2.4 at my LHS for $90. Other than my own stupidity during setup it seems like a great radio with model memory ,2 pos. and 3 pos. switches and a micro reciever it works great on my SCX-10 runs my lights and winch from the reciever with no mods or adjustment issues |

I have the dx3e and absolutely HATED the 3rd channel switch position, but it has grown on me now. It does have the trim knobs on the top of the controller, but I have not had them move once. I would recommend it.

The XR4 is a great radio. I've been using mine on my scaler since the first day I got it. Its feels good and for the price, I don't think anyone can beat it. You can read the review in the RC4WD section. |

| No epas or even trims on the 3rd or 4th channels kills the deal for me. |

| Might kill the deal for you, but not for me. I can adapt to change. I have better radios than this that is for sure, but this radio doesn't fall short. For anyone that wants it an can only afford this, it is a great radio. I had a TQ3 with a dig and only a two position third channel, it was hard to set it up but I got it to what I wanted it to do. Never burned my dig servo either. It takes time getting use to new things.

| Actually those are old things we don't have to put up with anymore. The newer/better radios have very useful features and are well worth the little extra money. They are actually cheaper today with more features. I paid over $100 bucks for a top of the line 2 channel am pistol without eps back in the early 80's. These are the good old days! |
