| pinion or frnt overdrive
I just changed the 27 t motor to a 55t, a 13t pinion 87 spur in a Axial Scorpion. The wheel speed looks a bit slow, w/ the gear combo.Over driving the front wheels, would this mod be a good upgrade. To help with technical sections, which require a lot of articulation & or climbing? |

It would usually always help to overdrive the front. Personally I would go back up to about a 20t pinion with the 55turn. Still have plenty of torque to get out of sticky situations and get a little bit of your wheel speed back.

I do not know what you have for a speed control in your rig but 3s really helps with wheel speed and torque also . |

Why did ya go to a 55t if ya wanted wheelspeed?????????? But yes, overdriving the front will get ya a little more speed and plant the front more. Personally I have more luck gearing down higher turn motors than trying to gear up high turn motors. And of course 3s is the ticket! |

Few reasons, I went to a 55 from a 27 that came stock with Axial Scorpion. The 27 went bad. Would keeping the nose, leading the rear, be a better idea, along with more traction. I agree that putting a bigger pinion,to help with over all wheel speed. Which would be the better to FIRST go with, due to FUNCTION. Wheel speed helps with momentum, to get up and over. But, what if the rig is nosed in, or close to being. the elects. in the rig are, Fatuba trans./ reciever. Tazer esc with no brake. F/R only.I'm more of a rock creeper than trail runs. I like useing more technque. to get where i want. My wife's Crawler King has a 55t motor & a 21 tooth pinion. It looks like her rig has some trouble with technical sections. Also planting the wheels would help with traction. I've got a 21 tooth pinion that came on the rtr. I could try. to see if the change along w/ behavior is what I want. w/ driving style. I'll post notes, to show results. Some one else may need the info for thier rig PS. A tuned chasis, is better than one, with parts thrown at it. Last edited by Jamis17; 08-06-2010 at 07:45 PM. |

I liked the wheelspeed of my ax10 with a 55t motor and 14t pinion. Research your ESC to see if it will take more voltage, or trade up for another one. I hear good things about the Outcry from RC4WD. Check it out.

| , funny you mention that, just tonight, put one on order. I've also, been seeing a bit of say about that esc. I took, a leap of faith with this one. It sounds like a decent - good brain. For alot of crawlers on a tight budget, you get, forw, rev, brake. For some one just getting into comps or some thing of the nature for around 55 bones. think, don't quote me, its brush only. Can handle a 4s lipo. for around 55 bones. It seems to be cutting the mustard, with little trouble, up to now.i'll throw some feed back, from how it works. TatooKenny :I really do, appreciate your concern,(I never order blindly, that's just stupified! Not to be a smart ass, I should have you pm,when i'm looking for parts. "ATTENTION memo reminder: "remember HH".A few weeks ago searching here. I saw some info on the outcry. As a rule, always, do a bit of research).. Ordering any thing on line, is a "leap of faith" ,simply because, it's the web, or a bad part. Again, thanks for your input.. Cheers, hope you are having a good week end. Ps. If I see more than 4 people, sayin the same. I'll normally take their experience, as a "strong suggestion". Last edited by Jamis17; 08-08-2010 at 06:45 PM. |
