Default Super tight SCX10 hexes!

Stupid question, but does anyone have a trick for getting narrow SCX-10 hexes (part AX30427, Axial Narrow 12mm Aluminum Hub - Black) OUT of wheels? Tamiya Hummer wheels, to be specific.

I got some of these hexes for my project, and found that they have a little set screw to keep them on the axle when the wheel is removed, which is nice as it should keep the pin from dropping out if you take your wheels off in the field. However, the first time I put the wheels on, they were TIGHT, I had to use the wrench and the wheel nut to get the hexes to seat in the wheels.

The first time I pulled them off, it was incredibly hard, and I guess on one of them I didn't tighten the set screw enough, as the hex stayed in the wheel. With a little bit of the set screw sticking out, making it difficult to remount the hex to the axle. (AX-10 axle, so it shouldn't have been a problem.

I tried all the usual tricks that I know, like hooking the hexes out with an Allen wrench, but no joy. My tires aren't glued, but I do want to preserve both my hex and wheel intact.

Any suggestions?

Stick it in the freezer. The hex might shrink more than the plastic allowing it to come out easier.
