newb question about hb rover whites
 

Just got a set of hb rover whites and was wondering what sort of trimming I should do to the foam. I know its all personnal preference but was looking for some sort of guidlines to go by. Just cutting the sidewalls 1/2 or so all the way around? Staring them or leaving them be and go from there. Thanks for any insight.

front rear bias
moa/ shafty...

...but i'd run em stock. need a baseline to start from anyhows right? stick em on there"thumbsup"
i run chisel's in the front and rovers in the rear.

foams are so wide that the bead of tire isnt staying in the wheel while i try to install bead lock. Just keeps popping out.

The stock foam in my opinion is too short for the tire. I would invest in a set of Crawler InNovations 5.5" double duece foams, here is a link...

These are the foams that almost everyone is running in their Rovers. I have them in mine as well and they work GREAT...."thumbsup"

ok so i cant get the bead to stay in the rim while I attempt to instal the retaining ring. This is really kicking my butt. Been almost 2 hrs now and only on first tire. Cant even get one side on. Man I feel like a freakin shirt bus passenger. No offense to all my shorty peeps.

what wheels are you useing?

I use proline 8 shooters with the HB Rovers on the stock foams, and they work awsome! I'd leave the stock foams the way they are, for now. The foams are wide, you want the tire to stick out past the wheel.

My tires have been on and off the rims so many times now adjusting weight that I can bolt all four up in about 45 mins. The first side should go on fairly easy, second side you can try to find somthing to set the rim on top of like a shot glass, this helped me free up a hand. Set a couple of the screws into the ring line them up with the holes and turn them in a couple times, then slowly work the bead into the rim as your installing the screws. Once all the screws are a couple threads in the rim, work you way around the wheel and tighten 'em up. The bead should find its home. After the 3rd or 4th time you do it, you'll be a pro!

hey thanks. just got done watching a video on you tube where a guy leaves the rings on the wheels but very loose and then puts the tire on, sets the bead twixed the rim and ring and tightens screws. says basically same thing u said about the bead finding its home. fixin to try it. freakin thumbs and fingers are sofa king sore. LOL

I agree about the stock foams being short. They leave loose rubberwhen mounted. I agree with the bigger foams. I have used, with 2 sets of rovers, proline oversized 2 stage foams. They work PERFECT!!! Others prolly do too, but I haven't used those.

As for the mounting them. Try sitting the tire/wheel that you are trying to mount on another unmounted wheel. It will hold the wheel you are mounting while youwork the tire into the bead. "thumbsup"

i use pro line 2 stage foam in mine and they work great. the best way i think for mounting tires is. installed one ring and start with two screws across from each other. then mount the rest but not all the way, leave room to get a small screw drive in between the rim and locking ring. now work the bead in to the grove. once you do that thighted down all the screws. flip the wheel over and set it on a beer can and repeat

wow......finally. got one done. what a pain the assets.had to use a little dishwashing soap but it worked. combination of all the above info. tried all individually to no avail. but finally got it. Definately see what you are saying about taller foams. seems to be "dead" space twixed the tire and foam...like buying shoes a 1/2 size to big. Gonna try my luck at the rest tomorrow and see what happens. might have to order foams. sure would hate to though especially all this trouble. there definately is a system to doing it as well as the good old fashion KISS method. crawler innovations 5.5 foams work great

Get the proline 2 stage and DON'T cut them. Leave them how they come. Another problem I found with the stock foam is that with the "dead space" ur talking about it doesn't side hill for $#!+. The tire will roll under itself and pretty much sit on the bead.
