clearance question and articulation question
 

i own a scx10 and i was wondering what i can do to make some better clearance and a little more flex outta the truck?

I have also bought a SCX10 Honcho and am wondering about this.

I run Losi 4" crawler shocks on my SCX-10, I didn't like the stock shocks it came with. It will run, with this setup, most of the stuff my 2.2 sportsman crawler will run....just a little different line for the 1.9 tires..

The SCX10 has about all the clearance you need for a scale truck. Your main limiter for clearance will be the axle chunk and there is nothing you can do about that. As for articulation you can leave the rubber bump stop out of the shocks. I run a stock SCX10 with no bump stops and finished second at our last scale comp.

i was reading the other day that if you convert it to leaf springs it can give you more flex than the stock links

if you want flex and clearance go comp my old ax10 had so much flex i had to limit it . i like to run about 70degrees max though 90 degrees atriculation will often work against you

You can put a lift on it . Longer shocks and links will raise the truck and give you more articulation . You can run 2.2 wheels and tires also . This may not be a better setup but it depends on where and how you run the rig .

My SCX10 sits about 1 inch higher than bone-stock.
- 1/2 an inch of lift from upsizing to a 2.2 tire.
- And another 1/2 inch of lift from repositioning the shock location. (See photo below)

I like the amount of flex given by the stock shocks, and as for ground clearance, those two mods I did really hit a sweet spot. Enough clearance for some aggressive crawling, and low enough that the rig is still has a good COG, i.e. not too tipsy. Bottom line; it crawls 80-85% of what my 2.2 comp rig does.

honestly I think that going with some weighted wheels will take a lot of complaining out of the setup. get 6-8 oz a wheel in there and then see where you can improve the setup. i agree - the stock shocks leave more to be desired....the weight down low will help with articulation. i run my shocks about half full but still run the 30wt oil it came with.

another thing you may want to try...using shorter shocks....mount them diagonally so that the tops of them mount to the crossbrace between the stock shocktowers...it acts like pivot but with the shocks closer inside it allows for more articulation.and you just mount the bottoms of the shocks in the stock location I beleive...

Not sure what shocks people run for that...I think they may be onroad shocks or jsut short offroad shocks
