Default HPI or Axial

Hey guys,
I am new to the crawler/trail scene and am trying to decide on either a Axial scx10 Honcho or an HPI king crawler. Any opinions and or advice are welcomed! Also I was going to try and salvage my old clodbuster and turn it into a trail/crawler rig but cheaper in the long run to just buy new. Anyways I have been told that the axles are sought after items, can someone recommend a selling price?

ive got the axial scx10 honcho, its my first crawler and so far i really love it, first thing i would suggest it metal linkage. it comes with plastic ones that bend and warp way to easy other then that, stock its a great truck.

Axial all the way for a crawler.

HPI for a fast bashing kit like the flux series!

Axial all the way.
Stronger, better build quality (in my opinion and experience)
Last but not least, better looking.

But the choice is yours mate.

Axal has the most aftermarket following and can be made to crawl well with the right add ons.

Losi also make a great crawler. The nightcrawler and comp crawler.

+1

But losis Crawl much better Box stock, so if your not really aiming towards putting money into a kit, the losis would be great!

It all depends if you are looking for a more scale truck or a more comp ready crawler. Either way HPI has neither. For a RTR comp crawler the losi would be my pick however I recommend getting the Losi Comp Crawler Race Roller and putting your own electronics in because it's a better machine out of the box than the Night Crawler and comes with dig. For a scaler the SCX10.

Axial for a Scaler if thats what you want or Losi for a comp rig. It all varies on if you've got a budget.

Axial for a scaler, But I do like the wheely king axles.

The crawler/wheely king works best as a monster truck but for detail and performance I'd say axial if your not going to build a full custom rig

I'd have to vote for the Axial SCX-10 myself ... bought the kit and have been having a great time building it

I got a honcho for my first crawler and love it, way more support. Just do some reading on this site, and see what fits you best.

I have a CK and have to think there are a lot of better options. Losi, Axial, Venom, etc. I got my CK for free as a gift and its fun enough if you do a few things right out of the box:

1. Cut the foams into stars for better tire flex
2. Move the steering servo to the front axle
3. Drop the body down as low as possible and cut the wheel arches until the tires dont ever touch (you'd be amazed at how tire contact hinders driving)

It's decent for recreational bashing but as an experienced R/C guy I've already grown out of it. I've got other hobbies too (so no money for a completely new rig) but at this point I'm just using some of my CK components and building another rig: new TVP plates, 4 link, lower CG, etc.
