Default do i need a bec?

Guys, i.m switching from rooster crawler to fxr and the question is do i really need a bec?
I loved the rooster, it has 5 amps bec, so the servo did well. Fxr seems to have 3 amps only and i wonder will it handle the 200 oz servo in a decent way...
I run ax10 with no dig.
Please, advise.
Thanks

The FXR still puts out 6 volts on the internal BEC so you should be fine. If for some reason you are running a servo that can take more than 6 volts, then you should buy an external Ubec....

I say when in doubt....run a BEC. If you do not run one, the chance of "Magic Smoke" definitely increases....especially on 3 cell Lipo. I run one on EVERY car/truck that I own. A $20 BEC is an inexpensive way to keep your servo running smoothly, and the ESC from burning up. The Castle 10amp BEC comes factory set at 5.1v....to get to 6.0v either have your LHS program it, a buddy program it, or buy a Castle Link.

Look at it this way,

How much did your ESC cost? $90? How about the Servo? $100+?

A BEC is $20, and can very well save your FXR from smokin.

Especially if you one day step up to a 400oz+ 7.4v servo

You need a BEC. Yes the FXR can put out 6V, but thats not the problem. Its
how many amps that matters. Believe it has 2 amps The only ESC that
can work for a crawler without running a external BEC would be the Holmes
Hobbies ESC. When your tires binds between rocks is when you pulling amps.

sorry to hijack but is there a difference between BECs for brushless and brushed? I have a HH BRXL powered by a 3s and would like to run 2 servos for 4ws.

there is never a question of if you need one. the answer is always yes. if you want the full potential out of your servo.

yes, you need one. the difference is astronomical from not having one and having one. speed AND power are more consistent.
