Default Tamiya CC - O1 Land Cruiser FJ40

I am looking at a Tamiya Land Cruiser FJ40 and I am kind of new to this "rebuild/upgrade" world. I want to keep kind of the stock stance and loock but would like to lift it up a bit and put some bigger stockish looking tires.

Is this a good platform to start with or is it limited do to it being a kit?

I am running a pretty simple rock crawler right now - Redcat RS10 XT that is capable in the courses around my house.

Thanks for any and all advice.

Teeth to the wind,
Sno Dawg

BTW - I have a full size 1972 FJ40 with a 4 inch lift and 33 inch mudders on stock steelies. My goal is to build this Tamiya to look like my full size.
