Okay, I didn't quite understand the descriptions, but I started looking at mine. I took some pics, I'll try to update them later with quality ones, these were taken with my cell phone: 2nd Generation: 4th Generation: Last edited by Phoenix; 04-18-2006 at 05:13 PM. |

Ok broke the rear axle in my first jeep so I went and bought another while I wait to get this one fixed under warranty. Both are early(1st gen.)chassis with pins in shocks. But there were some differences. 1)Boots over wires going to rearends. One has black, one has clear. 2)Wheels bolt on differently. One has a black plastic spacer with two prongs around the screw. The prongs fit into slots on the ends of the axle. The other is just a screw into the rear axle. This one doesn't have the slots in the ends of the axle. The wheels are also different. The one with the spacer has a larger hole in the center of the wheel to allow for the spacer around the screw. The other has a small hole just big enough for the screw to pass through.Hope that makes some sense. Anybody know if these are different gen or just a variation of the 1st gen? |

1st Gen - Pins to hold axle together, Riveted shocks - cannot tell 1st from 2nd gen unless you take axle apart 2nd Gen - Plastic Axle Couplings, Riveted Shocks - cannot tell 2nd gen from 1st unless you take axle apart 3rd Gen - Metal Axle Couplings, Screwed on shocks, plate to strengthen knuckles, draglink attaches to knuckle with a threaded nut rather then another rivet 4th gen - metal axle couplings, screwed on shocks, plate to strengthen knuckles, draglink attaches to knuckle with a threaded nut rather then another rivet, steering stop molded into knuckle to keep hub socket (or whatever) from gouging into the stub shaft. My buddy took the motors from his jank 1st gen and put them in his replacement chassis. The old motors in the replacement chassis go way better than the replacement chassis ever did. I'm not sure whether he used the new or old belts though. So, I am going to assume that they lessened the power of the motors in the replacement chassis to reduce axle breakage. I believe replacement chassis were 3rd gen, but I'm not positive, and I don't feel like unpacking mine to look for steering stops. Christian

So I know this might sound dumb, but is the 4th gen the best so far? Sometimes companies f-up when they redesign. Also, is the scorpion chassis different than the jeep chassis. my 3rd gen jeep doesn't have as much flex as my 4th gen scorpion. If I put the jeep body on the scorpion chassis, the front tires rub the fenders at full flex. They never did that on the chassis that it came on Last edited by kcmudbug; 05-01-2006 at 05:17 PM. |

its kinda hard to determine which chassis are better than others... on the 4th gen, the bump stops in the hub dont alow the axle to pop out, and the belts are alot looser which means that the belt will slip before axles break. The chassis basics have all stayed the same... shock mounting points and the overall shape has ot changed at all... yet anyway. Who knows what kind of a chassis the bronco body will be sitting under.

yes, the same controller works on my 3rd gen and my 4th gen.... the big board on my 4th gen is actually a big board and a small board with the black boxes mounted on the smaller one.....i didn't look at it to close, i just noticed it and posted as i was putting it back together.... |
