*** Axial AE-2 ESC Voltage Question ***

Will the AE-2 axial ESC handle a 8 cell saddle?

DezertCrawler 04-17-2011 03:23 PM

yes

Cmace23 04-17-2011 03:26 PM

The spec sheet says 6 cell 7.2v or a 2 cell 7.4 lipo I just bought this batt and the escape I don't wanna fry it loli I should have looked 1st then bought damn impulse buys haha

Ummm...8 cells of what??!! Nicads/NiMH are ~1.2VPC, Alkalines are ~1.5VPC, LiPO's are higher, LiFE are also different........:roll:

Cmace23 04-17-2011 04:51 PM

The pack is nimh

DezertCrawler 04-17-2011 05:09 PM

when he said 2cell he means a lipo.

Cmace23 04-17-2011 05:15 PM

I don't have a lipo I have a 8 cell saddle pack form the crawled store will it work with a the ae-2 esc can it handle the voltage

dracbec 04-17-2011 05:21 PM

i read of 1 guy running it on a 3s lipo witch is 11.1v but i wouldn't do it...i think the limit is more for the motor now the esc

forbid89 04-17-2011 05:58 PM

I've run 3S lipo's on my AE-2 for short periods of time without any ill effects. Just have to be careful not to run it too low without a LVC.

i guess that must have been you i read about

Cmace23 04-17-2011 07:35 PM

Ok so I guess its just a take chance thing and maybe just run it for short periods of time and let the esc cool down? I run the pack with the ae-1 now well I just started that this weekend and I noticed my esc was getting warm but the guys at tcs said the esc (ae-1) can handle it

R2theICKY 04-17-2011 07:50 PM

As far as I know those new Axial ESC's are modified Castle Creation SideWinder V1 ESC's and those could handle 9.6v 8cell NiMH battery packs.

You might want to give Axial a call or e-mail to confirm.

If they can handle your 8cell pack you might need to run an external BEC to run you rx and sevro since the high voltage of the pack will most like lower the amp output of your ESC's internal one. Might cause your servo or receiver to brown out because of lack of amps.

Castle Creations makes a 10amp one that goes for about $22

Or just get a 7cell pack to run and you wont have to monkey with the BEC if it sounds to over wellming.

It usually runs fine 04-17-2011 09:56 PM

Except the ae-2 has lipo cut off

forbid89 04-17-2011 10:08 PM

You're right the cutoff is set to auto from the factory, somehow I was thinking I would have to use castle link to set the cutoff voltage

Cmace23 04-17-2011 10:11 PM

Ok yalls issue is solved what about mine lol "thumbsup"

forbid89 04-17-2011 10:31 PM

Like others have said you will be fine running a 8 cell saddle pack. A 3S lipo pack is 11.1V and the 8 cell NiMH saddle pack is 9.6V. If you want to be extra safe then run an external BEC to take more of the load off the ESC.

Ok thanks everyone! Ill chime back in here in a few days/weeks and let everyone know how it goes happy crawling to all
