| battery charging
I did a very quick search and didn't really find what I was looking for, so you guys are up I have a venom pro-charger, and I am trying to charge my sons micro crawler battery. it is a stock 4.8v NiMH 150 mAh battery. What should I set my charger at. I have it charging at .1a right now, 5a is the max setting the charger for NiMH batteries. I am using this charger instead of the Losi quick charger that uses AA batteries in hoping that he can get little longer run time untill I get an adapter for the lipo I got for it so it will plug in to the balance block Any help would be greatly appreciated |

thanks for the imput. How do you determine how many amps to set the charger at based on battery size and number of cells. Is there a formula or rule of thumb?

2 amps??? I wouldn't charge that pack at more than .2 amps The charge rate is determined by the mah of the pack ie, 1300mah charge at 1.3 amps, 5000mah charge at 5 amps... That is why the 150mah pack you have should be charged at .2 amps... |

Safest to charge all batteries at 1-C unless they say otherwise. 150mah is what my 1-oz micro airplane uses -- you sure that's right? Anyway, if so, 1-C = 150 ma = .15 amps. |

In general, charging @ 1C masns a 1 hour charge time from "dead".

sorry for sounding dumb, but what does the C stand for? I am charging my 150 mAh packs at .2a and my 250mAh 7.4v Lipo at .2 balanced, and my 1100 mAh NiMH packs at 1.1a. That is correct right?

1-C for your 150mah battery is .15 amps. (note that 150mah = .15ah) 1-C for your 250mah battery is .25 amps. 1-C for your 1100mah battery is 1.1 amps. My opinion, all your charging rates are close enough. Be aware you can drain nimh packs pretty good without hurting them. But Lipo's don't like deep discharge. I try to keep mine above 3.7V per cell, but don't get too concerned if I at least stay above 3.5V per cell. That would be = 7V on your 2-cell Lipo. Some people go lower. To each his own.

chafing batteries can b confusing but everyone is right on here about the charge rates a 1000mah lipo charged at 1 amp should b fine and also it's a good idea to balance/charge every charge cycle it'll make ur lipos last longer IMO I do a balance charge on my 1500mah at 1amp and it takes about an hour and also make sure ur using a lipo cutoff on ur rc it's prolly not a good idea to drain em too dead and I agree around 3.6v per cell is where a dead lipo should b. a 7.4v lipo should charge to 8.4v
