I drill holes in all my wheels, I feel it makes the tires behave more realistic, ie conform to rocks better when some air can pass in and out.

The only reason I would see not to vent your wheels is if you play in the water. So you should probably add a 1/8 hole in the wheel to make it easier for the tire to comform to the terrain.

drilling holes helps a lot, allows the tire to deflate fully, and conform better to rocks

i drill out two holes. small enough, pinion setscrews can seal them up along with a spot of silicone or tool dip. remove for dry, screw back in and seal for wet.

Depends what you want to do with it and where you run it, how fast is it, how much does it weigh...

For my scx10, NO WAY.
For my MRC, Yes.

I drill two 1/8th holes in my wheels and run in lots of water, just squeeze out as much as you can before the truck goes back on the shelf.

I prefer to punch holes in the tires. It drains water better that way.

If my foams get really soaked I stick the tires on my slash and spin them to fling the water out.

+1...
Most comp guys drill the rims with 2+ ~1/8" holes
Most Scalers vent the tires

BTW, a search for "vent" or "venting" would likely show a number of existing threads in here & the wheel/tire forum.

I do that too. If you get them mounted right, you can park the truck with the holes all facing down and let them drain naturally.

The bad part about spinning the water out is that you can overstretch the foams and tear them. All that water adds a lot of weight to be slung around.

Good point. i should have mentioned not to just punch the throttle. I slowly increase speed. It's fairly obvious how much water is in the foams by how the tire is spinning when unloaded.

I would think if you decide to run in water, a little rubber cement over the tire holes would minimize water entry, and peel right off again after.

Or make a cheap set of mud tires if you want to go mudding. Chevron style self cleaning treads work awesome! I pulled some off a New Bright Big Foot monster truck and stretched them over some HPI Super Stars.

Soaked the tires in WD-40 over night to soften them up...they perform decent. I run no foams in these btw.

If anyone is unsure about the foams in their tires getting wet, read the Crawler Innovations thread, http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/crawler-innovations/ and the web site, http://www.crawlerinnovations.com/. This will help you learn what can and will happen to your foams if they get wet.

I just vent my rims. As others have stated, it helps your tires conform, but the biggest thing for me is it stops your tires from bouncing around. Vent holes in the rims and good foams will help your tires work much better.

What, they deteriorate and fall apart?
