Need more throttle trim; is there another option?
 

I need help with my electronics setup. I have finally finished my SCX10 kit build and got all the electronics hooked up. I plugged in my battery, turned my 4PL on, turned the speed control on, and the motor started running without any throttle input. The steering servo was off a bit as well, so I centered it using the steering trim. I tried to use the throttle trim to address the motor running about 1/4 [reverse] throttle, but run out of trim adjustment before I can get it to stop. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I have searched the newbie thread as well as the electronics thread, but cannot find anything. Probably not searching with the correct phrases, but I tried several. Will someone take the time to give me some tips? I am running a Novak Ballistic 18.5 brushless motor with the Novak Goat 3S speed control. The truck drives fine and is smooth as silk, but it won't sit still without some forward throttle input. Thanks.

Step 1, center the throttle trim ("0") on the TX
Step 2, set the throttle EPA's to 100%
Step 3, calibrate the ESC to the RX
Step 4, go have fun

I am not sure I understand your simple 4 steps. Sorry. I had the throttle trim set to zero and the EPAs to 100% when all this happened. I adjusted the trim to 100 and it slowed the truck greatly, but not to a standstill. Step three makes it seem like the speed control and TX will "understand" the issue and self adjust, but I struggle to understand how that can be. Can you elaborate on step 3? I was able to utilize the subtrim adjustment in the last 30 minutes to get the truck to sit still. Trim it at 100 and the subtrim is at 30. Still seems to drive fine, just not sure if this type of trim setting will be ok long term or if I have something setup incorrectly. Thanks for the help Charlie-III.

What esc are you using?

Follow Charlie's steps again carefully. He's pointing out that you need to calibrate your radio to your esc.

What esc are you using so that we can help you to calibrate your 4pl to the esc and have total control of your scx10. "thumbsup"

For step 3, it varies based on brand/model ESC. Most are sorta like, "TX on, hold full throttle, power up ESC, wait for lights/chimes, TX to full reverse, wait for lights/chimes, TX to neutral.......ESC is now calibrated to RX.""thumbsup""thumbsup"


(BTW, I have a customer site on the north side of SJ as well as one in RWC.)

Thank you for pointing that out. The last post from Charlie-III led me back to my Novak info to look once again. Guess what I found... I will run through that quick process while I'm trying to eat supper.

Thanks to all of you that took time out of your day to read and reply to my post. Much appreciated. I ran through the one-touch programming and the truck only needed a minor change to the steering trim to center is up. Seems to be working great. Thanks again. Have a great evening.

One thing as far as the servo goes. If the trim is turned a good amount you may need to center it. You do this by:

1: leave servo horn connected to steering linkage but remove from servo.
2: Center the steering trim on your controller (turn dial to middle) or set to zero trim in digital radios.
3: Turn on vehicle, servo should move to its center point.
4: Install the servo horn with the wheels pointed strait ahead.
5: Make adjustments as necessary with the servo sub trim in the menu if available (4pl) should have this to get the rig to run strait.

Don't forget to set the endpoints for the steering so you do not over stress the steering servo. It may be different for each side so do both.
