I'm new to the rc rock crawling deal here i am a big fan of rc stuff and i own many toy-grade rc cars and i want to jump into something bigger. i have read that you do need plastidip and marine grease for waterproofing or should i say waterproofing as much as you make it. I have seen countless youtube videos on how to waterproof the electronics using plastidip. so i went ahead and purchased some liquid plastic with the brush on the can lid. and i bought a tube of marine grease. so saw that you have to plastidip all your servos, batteries, plugs, ESC's and marine grease all your gears and bearings.

i will be purchasing a Losi 1:24 micro trail trekker. help me if i missed anything.

My ESC came waterproofed so I know nothing on that, but I prefer clear silicone for waterproofing as opposed to plastidip. I think its easier to cut off and get rid of than the plastidip stuff, so if you ever need to get rid of the waterproofing, you can.

A marin grade clear silicone is all I use. I coat the circuit boards and snap the cases back on so they look like nothing was done then dunk them acting like I don't know what I'm doing so every body tells me I'm an idiot.

I do the same thing, but I use liquid electrical tape.

Just so you know, running in the water makes maintenancing MUCH more important and much more expensive rebuilds. Your bearings will be trashed within weeks unless you're proactive.

how do you waterproof your bearings? i would like to learn from you.

You can't really waterproof them. I usually just break the axles down and put them in Wd-40 or PB Blaster for a few hours or a day and then try to coat them in marine grease before I put them back in.

sounds like a good idea i have plenty of WD40 in the garage. And just to let you guys know, i just ordered the last losi 1:24 scale micro crawler on amazon.com. again i dont have a hobby store near me so amazon was the closest thing. all i have to do is wait for it to come in the mail. in the mean time ill be brushing up on rc crawling here in the forums.

you don't NEED plastidip and marine grease. But if you would like to keep your electronics from burning up you should definitely use both of them. I use that on my scx10 and works like a charm. Also, marine grease has a longer life so less maintenance

I've been using balloons in my trucks with cheap electronics. As long as its cool out or you keep an eye on it I've been pretty happy with the results.

thanks for all the input guys. i even slapped marine grease on this squeaky computer chair that was driving me up the wall. certainly did the trick.
