how to reverse motor rotation Im building a xr10 and just want to confirm that the rear motor has to spin in the opposite direction right? And to do this i just have to swap motor leads? Do i have to rotate the end bell? Its a tekin 45t motor. |
Re: how to reverse motor rotation Yes, 1 motor must rotate "reversed" from the other in a MOA. If the motor is brushed (sounds like what you have), either: -Swap the red & black motor wires at the motor or -Rotate the endbell 180* Do NOT do both as they will cancel each other out.;-) |

Is there an advantage to either one? Or just simply one or the other with the same exact result? Swapping the leads seems much easier than rotating the endbell. |

Some people don't like soldering, so the endbell flip "may" be easier for them. Keep in mind, doing the endbell flip usually means removing the motor, loosening the 2 screws holding the endbell on, twist the endbell, tighten 2 screws then reinstalling the motor. You can't "just rotate" the endbell as the wires will likely be in the way.:roll:8) I just do the solder job....... |
Re: how to reverse motor rotation That motor has adjustable timing. If both motors are set at 0 degrees you don't need to read this, just follow the above of swapping wires/rotating endbell. Timing is kind of tricky to explain but I'll do my best. Its kind of like spark advance in a gas motor. Positive timing = faster motor forward and slower motor backward. Negative timing = slower motor forward and faster motor backward. When you look at the endbell of the motor you will see a timing mark on the endbell and a timing mark on the can. When those marks are aligned you are at 0 timing. If you want to tune your motors a little bit for more wheel speed you would run a little + timing on the front motor. Since the rear motor has to spin in reverse you would run the same amount of - timing on the rear motor. Just be aware that if the motors are shipped to you with a little timing, to set the rear motor to - timing. |
