Looking for some advice

I have had RC vehicles since I was a kid, but most of those were the cheapo of the shelf walmart type. I am looking to possibly get into the more expensive end, but am unsure what would be a good starter kit/ setup for some one that has not owned a RC of this quality before.

My requirements are:

dont break the bank
capable of all types of terrain
Ready to run out of the box
easy to control for ages 8 and up

I may let my kids use it once in a while, heance the reason for the last requirement.

Thanks in advace for any suggestions that can point me in the right direction. I have done some looking online for some RC vehicles, but cant tell the entery level from the advanced if there is even such a thing.

Axial SCX10. This will meet all your requirements. it is more of a scale type vehicle so it won't be as capable as say a comp style crawler, but it will suprise you what it is capable of.

axial has tons of aftermarket support, so you can get pretty much anything you would ever want for it. my 9 year old daughter loves hers.

X3...you can pick one up for around $250 in the classifieds on this forum.
You'll love it. I have a few and my 7 & 5 year old can drive them surprisingly well. (sometimes better than me)

RTR honcho all the way. I was in the same boat as you. Only toy grade rc cars in my past. Bought a honcho last September and have been hooked ever since. There is an awesome aftermarket for these trucks. Almost anything you would ever want or need is availabel. They are very tough and although most people will suggest a list of upgrades a mile long for them, if you drive it responsibly and realize a lot of parts are made of plastic it will last you a long time.

yea, from what I would want to build, a scale version of my XJ, it seems the Honcho is looking like the base to start with. And the only Cherokee body I found so far requires that I have the SCX10 to put it on.

I am still not to sure though, as it as mentioned, I am not looking for a full blown crawler, but I can see this hobby getting to be just as expensive as me trying to build my XJ. The prices for parts seem to be in scale too, IE an aftermarket front bumper for the XJ running about $240-300 average and the upgrade bumper for the RC running in about $24. LOL, 1/10 the scale, 1/10 the price, lol
