| Synthesized radios allow you to choose different frequencies without having to change crystals. Convenient, but they don't really enhance the vehicle's performance. And with the new 2.4GHz technology out there, they are becoming outdated. Last edited by Mad Scientist; 07-30-2006 at 09:29 PM. |

| Sure, a synthesized setup is generally going to cost more than a "standard" radio. But for the most part, you get what you pay for. While there are some very nice inexpensive radios on the market right now, with a more advanced system you are going to get more features. But on the other hand, if you are not going to use most of the features offered on high-end radios, why go to the expense when you can get the job done with a less expensive unit? | Synthesized is a good way to go... You get all the channels in one small package instead of having to haul around a few xtal sets, which can cost a fair bit after a few sets... I have one or 2 sets of xtals for my AM rigs but that's about it... Synthesized would have made a couple ppl happy yesterday... 2 of us were on Ch3 and I didn't have my Ch5 xtals with me... So, one had to wait while the other played... |
