Default Wich rig

Hello guys,

I had a wraith before and sold it.
Before it was just for pleasure, some light crawling and trailling.
I discovered that there is a club who organize some comps so I d like to do the races and have some fun too.
The big question is wich vehicule to be legal to do some comp....
I don t reaaly know the different cat.
I ve seen the XR10 and I m sure it s legal, ridgecrest is it legal?
I think that the ridgecrest can do some comps and some trail....what about XR10
I prefere shafty and I want new only. Other thing, I m limited with my TX who is a 3 channels and I don t want to change it.
Last thing, budget around 600$ and I m in Texas, north Houston exactly....

xr10 is a motor on axle or MOA crawler. its a different competing class than the ax10 ridgecrest which has the motor in the center.
im also a little new but ive learned a few things so far. axial rigs are the most common at least in KC. everyone seems to like those. i like the losi comp crawler (kit and electronics cost me 450 due to ebay) but its got extra maintenence and youve got to be careful with the worm gears. make sure to get a good tall set of tires like the HB rovers if you have clearance issues like i had at first. weight balance is important to. put it down low and up front. center of balance needs to be at the front of the skidplate. that is what ive learned so far. veterans correct me if im off any.

Tks for info man,

I looked and it seems that s there is club in Houston who start to be active.
I ve seen for XR10, kit + all aluminum links high clearance+ C hub, caster rear locker aluminum + HB sedona + 2 FXR + 2 Tekin HD 35 turns + Savox 1230 TG + BEC + weights on axle cost around 650$....
For the specialists, am I wrong or not to start seriously....

ive seen xr10s initially cost a good 1200 but it all depends on what you put in it and where/how you buy it. my LCC cost me 400 and an xl5 speed control so far. if i hadent used ebay and the mamba max pro and radio system i already had it would have run me 600+ and its not a MOA. Just remember. Ebay auctions can get you new or slightly used items WAY cheaper than buying it from the store

ive heard the dual tekin setup is a good one

found you an rtr for 400 Xr10 ax10 rock crawler tcs rc4wd | eBay

theyve got a few mildly cheaper new ones on there too

in crawling it goes pretty much by wheel diameter and setup. most common is 2.2 wheel classes and 1.9 wheel classes. some classes allow dig some dont. some allow the use of DIG. some dont. some allow motor on axle, others dont.

i think but if you buy a comp rig like the ax10 or xr10 or LCC or venom creeper any rig that is 1/10th scale and comp it should be regulation

Francois, if you are wanting to comp, then the XR is your best bet. With only a few upgrades, it is ready for comps right out of the box. You should come to our comp this month (the 25th in Galveston) and check out some of the different trucks.

We run all classes, so you can pick which one you like the best and start with that one...

BTW, here are the current USRCCA rules that our club follows:

Francois, I agree with JeremyH if your looking to get into a 2.2 comp rig then the xr10 is a good choice. The upgrade parts for it are vast.
Although if your building one from a new kit with duel esc's, good motors, gearbox gears, high torque servo, and a good set of wheels is going to cut into a $600 budget fast.

Check out a comp or two and talk with the people about what they have invested. Most will be more than happy to talk with you about their set-up.
Also checkout the xr10 section here. There are alot of builds posted on it. It will give you an ideal of what some of the more common upgrades are to the rigs.

Is the wraith axles are large but legal but is it not a little bit hard for the gate?

Well, it is best to run a wheel with a very small hub. There are a few builds here with sportsman trucks running Wraith axles (DrFrank is a good example) and they are able to keep the width to a minimum. Wraith axles have several advantages over stock AX10 axles. The AX10 axles can be built up to have those advantages, but it takes a good bit of work.
