| Hot motor
Im new to crawling and became intreseted after getting 2wd slash for my first crawler i got a venom creeper i am running a 12turn traxxas motor with a 15 tooth pinion and stock 42spur and motor temps seem to get hot after running a lipo for a bit. What does motor temps useally run for that type of motor ive only ran brushless systems on shortcourse trucks first time brushed user

I don't remember temps exactly but on my 12 turn traxxas I think they said to keep it in the 90's or lower 100's. I just know those motors hate heat I have 2 brand new ones and two xl5 escs cause they burnt up and I had traxxas send me new motors as I pulled them out and went brushless anyway so my 12t still in bags.

As far as I know you want to have a little higher turns for crawling I run 55t motors. I would say the heat could be from the motor not having the torque your trying to get out of it. Like said as far as I know and I am still pretty new at this but higher turns more torque lower turns more high speed

I agree with tlsrcs. You need a motor with more torque (and power efficiency)! At least 35T, and more isn't bad.

+1 for more turns i'm running a 55t. it's great for crawling.. but if you ride trails you may want just a bit more speed. idk what final drive your venom has, but 15/42 pinion/spur sounds a bit steep as well. my axial runs a 20/80 stock and overall final is still like 3.XX:1 and that's way less than ideal. a 35T motor with a 5-6:1 final drive ratio i think would be more my sweet spot. |
