| Little help deciding
I got a Wraith a few weeks ago. I love it. My wife loves it. She wants a Crawler now. We're more into rock crawling than bashing around. I was thinking of along the lines of an AX10 for more crawling ability than the Wraith. But after driving around the park, I was wondering how capable a more "crawler" rig is. Between rock piles and formations there are stretches of open area. If I was to get an AX10 or possible an XR10, can those drive across open road/terrain?

The ax10 and xr10 are "crawlers" & will rock crawl better, but can also be driven in fields and such. You might want to check out the scx10, its more of a "scaler" but with a few mods it makes a decent crawler also. You kinda get the best of both worlds with the SCX10. Just another option to think about. Last edited by lemonhead; 02-03-2013 at 11:00 AM. |

My scx10 rock crawls much better than my wraith, but thats how I have it set up. I enjoy both rigs , but my scx is always my go to truck because its so versitle.

If you are driving together, you will want rigs with similar capabilities. If not someone will always be at a disadvantage depending on the terrain. One person will be having a great time and the other not so much. Learned that one by experience. | |

Ive geared down to 87/14 on the stock 20t motor. I was actually planning on moving things around for a front battery today while at work.

You could maybe go with an AX10 and a low turn motor. When you gear towards speed you will lose a lot of torque loss. An AX10 with stock gearing and a low turn motor is an amazing crawler, but VERY slow. I bet there are guys on here with a 2speed tranny setup. That would be perfect for your wants and would be awesome.

My buddy has the AX10 Ridgecrest. All he did was gear down the pinion gear slightly, added some weight to the front wheels, and moved the battery to the front. That thing is a beast, when compared to my SCX10 with comparable upgrades the AX10 does better at sidehilling and flexing since it has the wider axles and longer shocks. Anyhow, point I'm trying to make is that I think either truck would do what it sounds like you are wanting. As far as the XR10..thats not even going to be comparable to your Wraith. XR10 is a MOA (motor over Axle) kit. Anyhow hope this info helps ya out! |
