Default Which Hobby Town crawler?

i have the chance to return my crappy helion dominus for partial store credit and id really like to pick up a crawler base. i REALLY want to build a super at some point, or something with a tube chassis with a lot of articulation. id LIKE 90* of articulation (in the end) and something like 45* of steering.

looking at the site, i see these:

Axial Wraith (id need to replace a bunch of stuff eventually, even to make it good for what it is out of the box.)
Axial SCX10 Honcho (i like this for scaler, but not sure about a full crawler)
Integey 4WS iRock (nice for the quad steer, but i hear its a crappy RC)
HPI Crawler King (no real opinion, but looks like less GC than others.)
Vaterra Twin Hammers (custom order, but id like to have some reviews to watch first. also dont like the moulded "lights") (and im not sure i can order this thru them yet, but the LHS HT carries other vaterras)

really? i was wondering about those but i thought the wheel base was short (but that may just be my perspective, since its a taller rc)

SO much wrong here.

First 90° of articulation is not what you should be looking for. You need to do some reading and find that too much articulation is a BAD thing. 5-6" is PLENTY.

Second, don't go with a Crawler King. They are OK but not a great choice. Nearly no aftermarket support worth a damn for crawling.

Stick with an Axial if you want a crawler. Almost any Axial can be made in to a dependable and capable crawler easier than any other brand.

i would say any axial scx10. great platform to start with. tons of aftermarket suport. at the comp i did today the scx10 made up prolly 60% of the field. they did it right.

Great for a scaler but not the right choice for a comp rig.

and thats what i was thinking too. i know i wont be in many (any) comps but if one were to be happening, id like to have something to toss in the hat.

at the same time i know the SC is a good rig, but for scalers and honestly, i like original. the guy above you said it, 60% of the rigs were SC's. most of the ones i see are identical (body wise) and id really like to have something...different. one day ill probably get a Honcho (cant stand jeeps) but right now, im doing one thing at a time. at least if i get a wraith to start with i can make it as mild or wild as i want.

and as far as the articulation goes, i know i dont need 90*, i was giving an example of me wanting something flexy. i built lowriders a and drove a few 1:1 crawlers for a bit, so not all things are lost on me!

The Twin Hammers looks pretty sweet out of the box.

I've been hearing not-so-great things about the stock Twin Hammers electronics.

Radio looks good. Motor and ESC looked like they were average quality. The motor was a pretty low turn (maybe 19t) if I remember correctly.
