Default Crawling questions

I have been watching a lot of RC Crawling videos. So I have a few questions to ask and see if anyone has an answer for them. One thing I have noticed is that on downhill’s or steep grades a lot of trucks free wheel down or runaway. So is this due to not having brakes? If so could you install a brake setup to stop this? Next I noticed a lot of wheel spin/speed. Is this due to not low enough gearing or is it the preferred setup? The reason for this question is that I noticed trucks doing just fine till the driver guns the throttle and upsets the truck and looses traction till they back off a bit. Tire set up is another thing I have noticed. Some look like they are using the foam on the inside and some are not. I know this has to do with preferred driving style but wouldn’t be better for the tire to conform to the rocks as much as possible? Well I will have more questions later.
