Default Shimming TLT axles

Okay, so Ive searched, and havent really come up with an answer.

Can someone tell me, or give me a pic of what Im supposed to shim in the axles. Also, what should I use to shim them? I just built my first TLT for my son, and I want to make sure its done right. I have never owned a shaftie, so sorry for the dumb question.

Thanks for any help you can give me

Well. On the bottom of the axle there is a ridge that sticks out all the way down the axle. Shave that down so its flush with the rest of the axle. Also, if you haven't tried it yet, move your lower link mounts to the back of the axle. If you have not yet done so, let me know. I can either tell you on here or AIM how to do it.

And yes, you can use a dremel.

How do you two geniuses expect him to shim his axles with a dremel?

Beatnbruised, you add washers behind the pinion gear to bring it in closer to the ring gear, this reduces slop between the ring and pinion.

Unholy beat me damn.

Most hobby shops sell shim washers just for stuff like this.

shim

A male, usually fat, hairy, and prone to playing everquest 16 hours a day, who pretends to be a female while on the internet. Shims allow for roleplaying to be taken to a sexual level while playing video games, and sometimes practice while cybering with random guys in teen chatrooms.

I forget the part# but traxxas has a pack of teflon washers for about $3, one on the back of the pinion and one on the side of the diff so that it pushes the gears together and you are done, I have done it to 4 axles and have not blown up a diff yet, before that I grenaded about 4 of them, and I'm running an outrunner in one of the trucks with a heavy finger, the gears are a little tight at first but smooth out as the gears break in

Would need to be the short side to space the ring gear towards the pinion.

Does anyone know the number to these shims. I was at my lhs yesterday and the guy had no clue what I was talking about. He just kept trying to sell me steel washers that were to thick.
