Default Which crawler for 6.5yr old boy?

Hi I be heading back home soon and I was looking at different cars to see which one i would buy for my nephew.
I came to the conclusion a crawler would be the best thing not super fast they look just like monster truck and super torque to go over the yard mostly grass and they would do just fine on the street.

It would have to be reliable or as close as it can get.
He won't have much support if the car break other than me being there for a short time.

Of course I was looking at the axial as they look super cool I bet he would love a wraith. But any suggestion or other brands or model to look.
Thanks!

I'm not sure a crawler is the right choice for a 6 yo.
I guess if he just drives it around the yard it'd be ok... but even then, stock Axial parts are notorious for screws backing out and breaking parts when the wheels get in a bind...

You may want to look into a Traxxas mini truck with a brushed motor.
The Traxxas esc's can be set to "training mode" which cuts power by 50%.

I got my 7yr old an AX10 also, its perfect for kids - an scx10 would be just as good too. I messed up and got her a Losi Mini crawler at first, she wasnt happy with how slow it was...just my 2cents

I think the problem isn't whether or not he'll like... it's who's going to work on it when it breaks.

The OP said:

You could give one of my Axial crawlers to a kid (if you took out the Pro4) and he could most likely play with it forever without breaking a single thing... I seriously doubt that can be said about a stock Axial.

Everything has the potential to break, teach him t be easy on it and you should be good. I had to tell my kids what is good and bad but they have playe with mine for a year now. all three still going strong!!

I think im gonna agree with the traxxas route. Maybe a mini brushed summit. Personally i would change the motor out for a higher turn to slow it down some and get more battery and motor life out of it. It will be waterproof too. Im not a big fan of traxxas but for this application its perfect. Plus if something breaks anyone will be able to bring him to the lhs to get parts and even have them fix it if need be.

My friend got his 5 year old little girl and her 10 year old sister a couple of axial scx10s. Only things he did was waterproof them and changed a few screws and put them in with ca glue. They have been running for over a year now and they have been on trail runs and crawling with us. Oh he also did the mod on the plastic drive shafts.

My son is 5 and runs his ragged and it doesn't quit. Just upgrade to some metal links knuckles and c's and put a 35 turn in it. Plenty slow and can be bumped up with experience. My son after 8 mints is running on 2s with a 20t motor 17pinion and 87 spur

My 3 year old daughter tried a SCX10 at our local fair (I guess Axial provided about 5 of them for a booth) and actually didn't do too bad at all. I would think a 6 year old would do well with one!

Ya. Get him a 1/16 mini revo from traxxas. My son is 3 as well and he drives the hell out of it. Parts are dirt cheap and they can beat the hell out of them. Also water proof out of the box. He has 2 a revo and a mini summit. I super glue the bumpers every week haha. He runs at 50 percent too using a dx3c because of the weight of other controllers they are tough, u can program many models and adjust the travel on the throttle to tune the truck down until they learn how to control it. To teach him how to drive better I put him in an open area and threw out a bouncy beach ball and told him to follow it around and hit it. When he got good enough now we drive all through very populated parks here in korea and he is amazing. Hell be 4 in december. Im making a video of him bashing now haha, cant keep the kid off the stairs. Good luck. any questions ask.

Thanks,
ORK

My son has driven everything of mine, and has his own wheelie king. That being said, when he is running the trucks, hands down the traxxas stuff I have can take just as much abuse stock out of the box as any of my built up stuff.

I say traxxas. The new telluride might be a good option, or maybe a stampede of some variety.

Good luck.

Thanks guys It seem that traxxas would be the one. Using NIMHs.
He would have grass would the mini overheat even setup at the 50% setting?
I think the mini summit would be a good choice, also at the 50% do the car run about twice as long?
I was station in Korea sure r/c is big they have 2 tracks on base.
Wow that big summit sure is intimidating they look awesome!

The telluride look pretty good on the video. Might have to look more into it. Does it also have the 50% setting?
The stampede seem to have a weak part on the axles.

The AX10 I picked up for my daughter is stock, and it has survived some pretty amazing things... You cant argue with TRAXXAS durability but stock axial really isnt bad in my opinion.
