Default What going on with the axial EXO

M starting to see on many websites that it is saying discontinued. Are they coming out with something new to replace it?

There have been rumors that Axial will be coming out with a new kit later this year, however, there is no word on it replacing the Exo.

The Exo was never a very big seller unfortunately, that's why it was discontinued.

Like Lents said there's rumors of a new ride, I hope they're true. The exo I think was just a poor design. It's a blast on the track and looks great. I have decimated way too much exo junk to say it can be bashed lol. There's not a single part I haven't bent or broke (ok maybe a rx box ). I still have them though cause they look great racing and with a few upgrades handle great and can be reliable while still pushed hard.

Happy hunting, I see new kits on craigslist sometimes. Maybe start there.

I heard the exo was discontinued cuz of it being the worst RC to work on.

After owning both a twin hammer and an exo I'll bestow that honor on the twin hammers. Whag a pain in the dick that piece of junk is to work on! At least the exo can be worked on with the interior removed. The TH required chassis teardown too since the cag3 wasnt open enough.

Same for the exo but the axial screws aren't made of margarine that will strip if you look at them oddly.

Maybe it had something to do with the design. Even a minor hit in the front end would bend the toe blocks. This is from hitting a small rock sticking up out of the sand. Nice looking rig but it was expensive to keep running.

I heard there was a tone of tuning on it in order for it to be stable.

Granted there were issues with the first run of EXOs, and they leave a little to be desired when it comes to working on them. That's the price you pay for scale. I appreciate that Axial took such a bold step to bring out this buggy and I find it a lot of fun to drive. And it looks bad azz too! Now do I beat on it like I do my Traxxas stuff? No that's why I have the Traxxas stuff.

I will agree with most statements that the Exo was a pain to work on, but once you dialed in the gearing and diffs, you never had to break the cage back open. The Twin Hammers was more of a pain because everything was much smaller.

I had a kit Exo when they first came out and they definitely had problems, especially on the more compact surfaces. If you were running in very loose gravel/dirt or sand, nothing broke and it was a blast! It seemed to perform the best in that terrain. Because the Exo has been discontinued, the only really good options for the cage and parts now are for the Wraith/Exo conversions:

Haha they took a leap on the EXO for sure, I have a fully upgraded EXO for show on the shelf.... had it for almost 3 years and have ran it MAYBE 6 times, at least half of those runs resulted in a break....

My only hard crash was on a curb at about 25. Bent the shaft and popped the shock cap off. The RPMS saved the rest of the parts from breaking.

I agree with pretty much every statement here, and it doesn't look like the EXO will be missed too much. I would much rather have axial focus on a second scaler platform and stop just re-skinning it's current products and calling them "New"

SCX-10, Wraith, and maybe a TCX-10 Trail platform with front motor and a transfer case, as well as chassis mounted steering. They could easily use SCX parts for almost all of it, and it would be easy to mass produce some plastic front tranny mounts and a CMS mount.

Dare I say add a quality hard body (THAT ISN"T SOMETHING JEEP) and it would probably outsell the entire exo production in the first few months.

This is why Ive had 10.. From Wrexos, BMRC conversions, WraithOs, FlEXO's, Terra Wraiths to Foff Wraiths, Ive chopped/cut/trimmed/Fabbed/screwed and glued, these things about every way, I can think of.
Shoot, I just thought of something else I can do w/them.. Im gonna need a few more EXOs..
