It's terrible. It will take all your money and make your loved ones jealous. Get out, while you still can.

I can only speak for the second generation, but I must say it is one of our favorite rigs, here is a short video of ours in action for you to see how it performs.

RCTogether * Axial AX10 Deadbolt * DEAD TRAIL - YouTube

We have plenty more AX10 vids up if you want to see more. In short, if you think you might want to try out the AX10, just go ahead and get it, you won't be sorry.

I believe you meant to say XR10 in your question. The XR10 is a MOA comp crawler. I would not recommend this as a new vehicle for someone who is not seasoned or really looking to compete or specifically crawl. MOA=Motor On Axle

You would be best off starting with the AX10, truly a great rig to start with.

Yes it is the XR 10 why would this not be good for a new guy ? I have a Axial Wrath now that I would like to set up to be a crawler . I need to figure out how to get the max travel out of my suspension .

For serious competition crawling, you don't need much more than around one tire height of suspension travel.

Much more than that, and it more often gets you into trouble on steep stuff.

It's very handy to be able to "carry" a tire over a large gap, instead of ending up in the bottom of the gap.

The original AX10 is the platform that most top level Sportsman rigs are based on. It's a very good purchase if you get it cheap.

Like most serious RC addictions, it's cheaper to build one from the ground up with empty axle housings, a transmission, and a custom chassis.

Otherwise, you end up with almost an entire AX10 in the parts bin, and two fully built axles, trans, and custom chassis anyway....

To build as you go, is more like a payment plan on a sweet rig, so that's ok too.

The XR10 is also a great rig to start in the MOA Pro class. It's the same story as above though, you'll have very little left of the original to be at a serious competition level.

It all depends how deep down the rabbit hole you're willing to dive....

In the end, good driving beats expensive parts on any given day, so just get a rig together and practice your tail off (practice is the fun part anyway!).

I would not advise setting up your Wraith as a crawler if you are looking at AX10s and XR10s that are more adept at crawling to begin with. Another thing to ask yourself is whether or not you ever want to compete, or are you just out to have fun. Then determine exactly what kind of riding (terrain, speed, etc) you plan on. If you can share more information like that I think we can provide better insight to your needs. The XR10 is simply not an entry level rig IMHO, and if you already have the Wraith then the AX10 will compliment it nicely. LIke if you have a friend over and you both want to ride together it would be fun. I will be honest because I own both wraith and ax10, I think I have more fun with my SCX10s when on the trail, it is just more a scale challenge. Check out the model specific threads too and look at pictures and builds and general conversations related to each model and go from there.

I bought a second-hand AX10 Scorpion with a HR body. It has 4WS, but I'll revert that back to 2WS. I love the way it looks and crawls, but it's no way near comp ready. I find it pretty hard to find spare or option parts in the Netherlands. The steering angle is awful. Need to find out how to increase that.

Would you say that a stock AX10 could out crawl a stock Wraith on the same battery setup or would it be a very close competition?

AX10 should easily beat a Wreath, simply because the Wreath is geared more towards speed than crawling.
With some adaptation and tinkering they're the same.

The Wraith has the same axles as the AX-10 Deadbolt, but a totally different frame and much longer wheelbase. I've only tried the older AX version with the narrow axles, but it sure performed better on the rocks than my Wraith other than sidehilling. The Wraith has a tendency to hang up on sharp obstacles due to the long wheelbase. It also need lowering of COG to perform well as a crawler, further decreasing ground clearance.
It depends on what you're looking for. My choise:
More scale and speed, Wraith. Less scale and mostly crawling, AX-10.

The wraith......... But neither are for "bashing" the wraith more so but you will need more durable parts then stock and you can make it into a basher, if you are looking into a basher, then I suggest getting a basher. I have my axials for trail running....... And an e maxx for when I want to bash

Cheers

None of them are good for bashing. Their both too slow to really bash and can not handle speed well.
