Default Good beginner comp crawler

Always been into RC since I was young. And do full size rock crawling and want to get into competition RC crawling.

There are quite a few people around my area that do 2.2 competition crawling.

I want a crawler I can get to start into 2.2 comp crawling. My price limit for the crawler, radio, upgrades is around $1000-$1500

Thanks!

Decide the category you want to run and build your own. MOA or shaft driven. You can build a great starting shafty well under your price point. MOA, gonna be close but you should be fine.

Most MOA crawlers are using "berg" axles or XR10 axles. Problem with Xar10 is that platform was discontinued so support is starting to suffer.

I wanna do 2.2 since that's what everyone here seems to run. But I don't know the first thing about building a crawler from scratch.

Is there a benefit of doing MOA vs driveshaft driven?

I would see what most people are running in your area before you build something. Go to a couple of comps and talk with the people, then build from there.

I plan on doing MOA since that is what most people around here run.

OK looks like what I'm going to do so far:

Switch Smash Chassis with plastic panels & Titanium Suspension links
Berg 2.2 Tracer V3 Axles
Futaba 4PLS
Hitec 7950 Steering

Know its a short list, but still gotta decide on wheels, tires, bec, esc, motors, shocks, and other random stuff

why the v3 axles? I would look for the v1 axles I think they have more aftermaket support. just might be something to look at before you buy them.

The V3's are a lot easier to find.
Looked around for the V1's but really only see them used on eBay.

I would buy a star and look in the for sale section. You can find some nice berg axles at a decent price.

If you want new, you could buy a set from DLux Fab, or a set of Bully 2 axles.

The dlux fab stuff looks nice, but it's way too pricey for my budget.

Check out the bully 2 axles guys!
Look like a good package and half the price of a built up xr10 axles!
Check out the rowdy build thread in rc4wd crawlers by brand and I have no doubt aftermarket support will be picking up
